  20. A Review of AsimCDFS 3.5

  22. If you are thinking of joining the world of CD-ROM storage,  multimedia,  
  23. and games,  then this is a product worth looking into. AsimCDFS covers 
  24. about anything you would ever need from a filesystem and CD utilities for 
  25. the Amiga.
  26.  
  27. Of the advantages of the product:
  28.     1. Support- pick almost any CDROM drive and any SCSI controller,  and 
  29.        you will have a working drive. (This includes rewritable CDROM)
  30.     2. Ability to "rewrite" files to the hard disk buffer. This is 
  31.        not mentioned in the manual,  but I have been able to do it.
  32.     3. AsimTunes- One of the best audio CD players around,  although 
  33.        it is a bit ugly. It has an extensive library,  and a 
  34.        customizable screen (it can even be placed on custom screens or the 
  35.        Workbench) Depending on your CD-ROM drive and your SCSI,  you 
  36.        can even output your audio through the Amiga.
  37.     4. PhotoCD and Corel Disk compatability. As I have not used photo 
  38.        CD's,  I will not review this feature. 8(
  39.     5. Mountable RAW sector
  40.     6. CDTV/CD32 emulation

  42. Disadvantages (these are the problems that I personally have had)
  43.     1. Full support for CDROMS and SCSI cards. This is a hard task 
  44.     and I commend the programmers for the long list of drives and SCSI
  45.     that they have supported. However,  when I changed SCSI cards from a
  46.       Dataflyer to an Octagon,  I lost support for CD32 games. This bugged  
  47.     me because I needed an autobooting SCSI in order to play some CD32  
  48.     games (Dataflyer is not autobooting). 
  49.     2. A nicer interface for the AsimTunes utility. Asimware has 
  50.     started to make it look better by replacing the "word" button for 
  51.     eject with a "symbol" button,  but what about the other buttons for 
  52.     play/pause,  stop,  etc? Also,  why doesn't fast forward work 
  53.     with my CDROM drive (Sanyo CRD254S)?

  55. In comparison to other CDROM filesystems... I have only used the CDFS for 
  56. the CD32/OS3.1... AsimCDFS is excellent. I hope that the programmers for 
  57. AT Gmbh take note when they integrate CDROM into the new OS.
