  10. Occasionally an individual discovers at a very early age the 
  11. course his life will take.  For David Martin that discovery came 
  12. at age three when he saw lizards transformed, through camera 
  13. trickery, into dinosaurs in Johnny Weissmuller's JUNGLE JIM 
  14. series.  From that moment forward, David knew two things:  that 
  15. he wanted to make his living drawing monsters, and that he 
  16. wanted, someday, to take a jungle safari to the lost world he 
  17. had glimpsed in his childhood.

  19. From such a beginning, the transition to a career in Science 
  20. Fiction and Fantasy illustration was a natural step.  David began 
  21. his career more than fifteen years ago by producing covers for 
  22. adventure games, paperback books, computer simulation games, 
  23. record albums, videotapes, miniatures, posters, cards and prints. 
  24. In that time, he has produced over 140 published covers on 
  25. products sold in Canada, England, France, Italy, Germany, Austria,
  26. Japan, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Spain.  His work has found 
  27. acclaim in our own country as well, garnering fifty-four awards 
  28. from Science Fiction and Fantasy conventions across the country.

  30. His interest in Science Fiction and Fantasy soon led him to 
  31. specialize in this field, and his covers have graced the novels 
  32. and short stories of Tanith Lee, Michael Resnick, Gordon R. 
  33. Dickson, Algis Budrys and Fred Saberhagen.

  35. In 1991, David's work appeared at Olympia and York's "Into The 
  36. Future" exhibition in New York, one of the first international 
  37. Science Fiction art shows in this country.  In 1992, he was 
  38. nominated for a Chesley Award, the Science Fiction art world's 
  39. highest honor, for a cover to TSR's AMAZING STORIES.  Finally, 
  40. in 1994, David traveled to the rain forests of Venezuela to climb 
  41. Auyan tepui, a primordial mountain plateau first written about 
  42. by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in his novel, THE LOST WORLD.
