QuickFrame Editor is a (mostly) undocumented utility that you can use to create different matte styles other than the ones supplied with QuickFrame. QuickFrame Editor is provided as is, and is not a supported Connectix product—if it has bugs, we may get around to fixing them, but don't count on it.
Here's the short description of how to use QuickFrame Editor:
1. Start QuickFrame Editor. If you start it by doubleclicking on one of the mattes we provide (in the QuickFrame Mattes folder), that matte will be loaded. Otherwise, you'll be presented with an Untitled Matte 1 window.
Note: you'll see various screen sizes represented within the window by dotted lines and a caption in the lower right corner of screen size. When you build a matte, you are building it for ALL screen sizes simultaneously. QuickFrame always tidies up your matte so that no picture will fall across lines (it does this by centering all of the pictures that will fit into a particular screen size).
2. Add pictures to your matte:
• Pick a shape for the picture from the Shape menu. You'll see the shape appear in the matte area. Drag it to where you want it.
• Pick the size for the picture. You can do this using the Size menu or by dragging the handle in one of the corners.
• Choose whether the shape should be beveled or not by selecting Beveled on the Shape menu.
Add as many pictures as you want using these techniques. You'll probably want to concentrate on the screen size of your machine, but if you want to distribute mattes to others, you'll want to pay attention to all the common screen sizes.
3. Change the border and background, as desired:
• The frame around the matte has three characteristics you can control: whether it is smooth, the pattern used, and the number of pixels wide it will be. These are controlled from the Border menu.
• The background has three characteristics: whether the pictures are applied from upperleft corner or centered, the background texture, and the background color. These are controlled from the Matte menu.
4. Save it! To work properly, you need to save your finished mattes in the QuickFrame Mattes folder in the same directory as QuickFrame.
Known problems:
• Printing doesn't work (most of the time).
• Screen updates (rarely) get confused. Just save and reload the file you're working on.
• Cut/Copy/Paste doesn't work on pictures.
• Fill in blank here (we did say this was provided as is, and not a supported Connectix product, didn't we?)
