- 4) Troubleshooting
- ------------------------------
-
- -DirectX 6.1-
-
- In order for the game to run, your computer must
- have DirectX 6.1 or higher
- installed. If you don't know whether your
- machine meets this requirement then it is
- recommended that you install them.
-
- -Manual Installation-
-
- To manually install DirectX 6.1 go to
- http://www.Microsoft.com/DirectX and download the latest
- version of DirectX that is available and install it.
-
- -Effects of installing DirectX-
-
- Installing DirectX may result in any manufacturers
- video card utilities being disabled (e.g. Matrox
- Powerdesk, Diamond InControl etc.). These
- utilities will no longer work, and any options to
- change video settings etc. will revert back to the
- control of Windows (to access the display
- properties, right click the mouse on the Windows
- desktop and select 'Properties', from the Window
- that opens, and select the 'Settings' tab to enter the
- 'Display Properties' screen).
-
- -'Insert Disk' request during installation of DirectX 6.1-
-
- If you receive a message asking you to insert your
- Windows CD-ROM during the installation of
- DirectX, it means that some part of Windows
- needed by DirectX is not installed (usually its a
- sound card related utilities such as volume control).
- If you receive this message, insert your Windows
- CD and install the required files. When this is done,
- you will need to reinstall DirectX in order to ensure
- a proper installation.
-
- -Problems restarting machine after installation of DirectX-
-
- If after installing DirectX, you restart your machine
- and encounter problems (e.g. a black screen is
- displayed rather than the Windows desktop) you
- may need to restore your old video card drivers. In
- order to see the Windows desktop to do this, start
- your machine in 'Safe Mode'. This can be done as
- follows...
-
- 1.Restart your machine, and when the BIOS
- screen appears (a screen listing CPU type
- etc. in a table) press the F8 key. Your
- should now see the Windows Startup Menu.
- 2.Select the Safe Mode option from this menu
- using the cursor keys and press <ENTER>.
- 3.Windows will now start and you will see a
- message telling you that Windows is running
- in 'Safe Mode'. Press <ENTER> to continue
- loading Windows.
- 4.Once Windows finished loading, press the
- right mouse button on any empty space on
- your desktop and select 'Properties' from the
- menu that appears.
- 5.From the 'Display Properties' menu, choose
- the 'Settings' tab and then click on
- 'Advanced' (if you are using the original
- version of Windows 95, this will be named
- 'Change Display type').
- 6.From the new window that opens click on
- the 'Adapter' tab, then click on the
- 'ChangeĆ ' icon (if using the original version
- of Windows 95, click on the 'Change' icon
- next to 'Adapter Type').
- 7.The installation process for adding video
- drivers will now begin, use the drivers
- originally supplied for your video card, and
- follow the manufacturers instructions.
-
- -Run through these instructions to make sure your DirectX is working properly-
-
- 1.Click , "Find", "Files and Folders"...
-
- 2.In the "Named" box type "dxdiag.exe".
- Make sure that the "Look in" window says
- "My Computer" and click on button. When
- Dxdiag.exe comes up Double click on the
- Icon.
- 3.Click on the "Display" or "Display 1" tab and
- look to see if it says Certified Yes or No. If
- it says no, then write down the Adapter
- Name, this is your Video card. If you have a
- 3Dfx card click on "Display 2" and check
- that card too.
-
- 4.Next click on the "Sound" tab, check to see
- if this one says "Certified: Yes". If it says no
- then write down the "Device Description",
- this is your Sound card.
-
- 5.If one or more of your cards were not
- certified contact the manufacture by phone
- or go to there website and get the latest
- drivers for your cards and Install them. Once
- you get your new drivers installed check to
- see if they say "Certified: Yes", once they do
- the game will work properly.
-
- - You may need to update your video card drivers in the event you have a
- problem running Bugs Bunny Lost in Time on your system. Below are the web
- addresses for the most popular video card manufacturers as well as the
- companies that produce the chipsets.

- -Close all programs-
-
- If you have gone through the Troubleshooting steps
- and your game is still not working properly, this
- may be the cause of a software conflict. Your
- system may have one or more utilities running
- (Virus scanners, Phone answering software, CD
- ROM utilities, game controller button mappers.) To
- rule out the possibility of a software conflict, Press
- the <CTRL>, <ALT>, and <DEL> keys at the
- same time and "End Task" all applications (Keep
- Explorer and Systray running) and try running your
- game again.
-
- ------------------------------
- 5) Known Bugs
- ------------------------------
-
- - If the turn the Music is turned off, you will not be able to
- hear any of the characters talking. You must uninstall and reinstall
- the game. Do not turn the music all the way off.
-
- - The engine should detect correctly your 3D card, but in some cases, the
- OpenGL hardware acceleration is not detected. Make sure that OpenGL drivers
- are installed. If the OpenGL driver is installed and the option "Using 3D
- card" is not available, just find the file "bugs.ini" in the "bin" folder of
- the game, open it and change the line "CheckGDI=1" for "CheckGDI=0". The game
- will now work on more cards, but will work too with cards that don't fully
- accelerate the OpenGL. If you have a FireGL 1000 Pro, you should use this
- tweak to run in OpenGL mode.
-
- - If you have a video card with a "3Dfx" chipset, some of the game
- menus may look slightly fuzzy.
-
- - The default config of the game is 512x384 in full-screen mode. The OpenGL is
- selected if the graphic card supports graphic acceleration with OpenGL, if
- not, software high quality renderer is selected on systems with 300MHz or
- better CPU. On slower systems, software low quality will be selected. You
- always can change these settings in the game or in the configuration dialog of
- the autorun.
-
- - There is no Gamma control in BBLIT, you must use your video card's
- gamma utility to adjust the brightness.
-
- - The engine supports OpenGL on 3Dfx chipsets through a dll installed with the
- game, this includes the Voodoo Graphics, Voodoo 2, and Voodoo 3 chipsets. This
- dll may not work with 3dfx chipsets such as the Voodoo Rush and Banshee. If
- you own a video card with a Voodoo Rush or Banshee chipset and you know the
- name of the dll used for OpenGL on your card, simply open the file "bugs.ini"
- in the "bin" folder of the game and change the line "DLL=0" for "DLL=the name
- of the dll". Only use this if you're sure of the name of the dll.
-
-
- ------------------------------
- 6) Hardware Compatibility
- ------------------------------
-
- - If you have a video card with a Voodoo 1 chipset, you must get the
- reference drivers from http://www.3Dfx.com
