  32. Q: How to register the software?
  33. A: Go to Start Menu Changer'97 'About' bookmark. Press there 'Register.exe'
  34.    button. Then fill out the form by entering your name, email adress and the
  35.    number of single user license you disere for each program you wish to 
  36.    purchase.

  38. Q: What is the start button icons limit?
  39. A: The Start button size has to be 10x10, 12x12, 14x14, 16x16, 22x22 or 32x32
  40.    with 16 colors. By default, Windows 95 uses 16x16 icon. You can change this
  41.    by resizing the active title bar (click right mouse button on desktop, 
  42.    select properties/appearence).

  44. Q: What does Start Menu Changer modify and how to remove changes?
  45. A: Start Menu Changer modifies Explorer.exe and User.exe files. 
  46.    Backup files are stored as Explorer.sav in your Windows directory and 
  47.    User.sav in your Windows system directory. It also modifies the registry. 
  48.    To restore your original files press the Restore button. To enable your 
  49.    changes you have to restart Windows 95.

  51. Q: How to restore original Windows icons on start menu?
  52. A: There are two types or doing that: 
  53.    1) Press right mouse button on the start menu icon, which you want to 
  54.       restore and choose in the popup menu 'restore'.
  55.    2) Press restore button and choose 'restore original icons on start menu'.

  57. Q: I'm having trouble with starting Windows 95.
  58. A: If you have problems with starting Windows 95 or restoring your original
  59.    settings, boot into command line (DOS) and copy the *.sav files to *.exe 
  60.    files. If you still have problems then 
  61.    1) Extract Explorer.exe and User.exe from your Windows 95 installation. 
  62.       ( For example:  EXTRACT /A /L C:\TEMP WIN95_02.CAB EXPLORER.EXE 
  63.       USER.EXE )
  64.    2) If you have IE4 shell integration installed then chahge in your 
  65.       C:\Windows\System.ini shell=Explorer.exe to shell=Progman.exe
  66.       When windows start up with Program Manager you have to go to File 
  67.       Manager (winfile.exe) and find the IE4.01 setup. And reinstaling 
  68.       IE4 by dblclick setup. The Internet connection have to be functioning 
  69.       because the problem did not affect that configuration neither IE4.
  70.       When IE4 finish the instalation the changes in system.ini comes to 
  71.       normaly again and the setup restart windows 95 automaticaly with all 
  72.       systems working properly.

  74. Q: How can I change the start menu vertical logo?
  75. A: First of all, you have to create a bitmap file (21x130 with 16 colors). Run
  76.    Windows Paint, choose size 21x130, draw what you like and then save the 
  77.    picture as a 16 color bitmap file (you can also change the palette of the 
  78.    logo). Run Start Menu Changer and then press 'Load logo' button to load 
  79.    picture. Anyway, after rebooting, your vertical logo size will be small. 
  80.    To correct this problem you have  to compress your picture file using RLE 
  81.    compression. Windows Paint doesn't support RLE compression, so choose 
  82.    another graphic editor, for example, Paint Shop Pro 
  83.    ( http://www.jasc.com/psp.html ). The best program that compresses BMP 
  84.    I've seen is Borland Resource Workshop. To view whole picture your BMP RLE
  85.    file has to be =< 1678 bytes.

  87. Q: My vertical logo has been cuted and there are some incorrect colors after 
  88.    it.
  89. A: To correct colors run Start Menu Changer, load logo and then decrease 
  90.    logo's height. However, the logo will always be cut because Start Menu 
  91.    Changer rewrites the existing logo in Explorer.exe file with existing size.

  93. Q: How can I create my own Theme Pack?
  94. A: First of all, see Sample Theme Pack. Index.smc is an ini-type file so you 
  95.    can easly modify it in Windows Notepad. If any ICON or BMP file (or sections
  96.    in index.smc) isn't included in your theme then the picture (or options) 
  97.    will not be changed in Windows.
  98.  
  99. NOTE: Unchecked Run, Find, Settings, Logoff, Suspend and Shutdown will not 
  100.       appear in Explorer at all until you've checked them again in Start Menu 
  101.       Changer'97. This happens because Start Menu Changer'97 also modifies 
  102.       registry.

  104. KNOWN BUGS: -> In Russian version the Run is not removed from the start menu
  105.                (Microsoft's bug). There are also some similar bugs in German 
  106.                Windows 95.
  107.             -> Dosn't support Windows NT  and Windows 98 beta 'Read beyond end 
  108.                of file' message occurs. This message also may occur on some 
  109.                unsupported Windows 95 versions.
  110.             -> Doesn't hide Settings from start menu in IE4 shell integration.
  111.             -> 256 color icons are saved only as 16 color icons.
