  28. *** SECTION 1 - Installing the demo (Win95) ***
  29.

  31. Begin by extracting the files to your hard disk.  This document
  32. covers the two most common methods.
  33.  
  34. USING Pkunzip:
  35. -------------
  36.  
  37. From an MS-DOS window, change to the directory that you have
  38. downloaded the Cricket '97 demo to.  Type the following:
  39.  
  40.  PKUNZIP -d C97DEMOW.ZIP C:\CRICKET
  41.  
  42. If you wish to install to a directory other than C:\CRICKET, then
  43. change all references to C:\CRICKET to the desired directory path.
  44.  
  45. USING Winzip:
  46. ------------
  47.  
  48. Double click on the 'My Computer' icon on your desktop.  Double
  49. click on the drive that you have downloaded C97DEMOW.ZIP to.  
  50. Navigate your way to the folder where C97DEMOW.ZIP is.  You may 
  51. now either double click on C97DEMOW.ZIP to open it, or right 
  52. click on it and select the 'Extract To' option.
  53.  
  54. If you double clicked the C97DEMOW.ZIP icon, you will now have to 
  55. click 'Extract' in Winzip.
  56.  
  57. Now that you are in Winzip, ensure that the 'Use Directory Names'
  58. option is checked.  Click the mouse in the 'Extract to:' field,
  59. and enter 
  60.  
  61.  C:\cricket
  62.  
  63. Now click on the 'Extract' button.  If you wish to install to a
  64. directory other than C:\CRICKET, then change all references to
  65. C:\CRICKET to the desired directory path.

  68. AFTER EXTRACTING FILES
  69.  
  70. Having extracted the files, the following directories should be 
  71. present:

  80. Double click the 'My Computer Icon', then double click the drive
  81. icon marked '(C:)'.  Double click on the Folder named 'Cricket'.

  83. Once in the cricket directory, double click on the program 'Setup.exe'
  84.  
  85. The Cricket '97 Launcher should now run.  Click the 'Install' button.  
  86. The set-up program will now run.  Initially, the setup program will 
  87. prompt you to select the resolution you would like the demo to run in.
  88. You will then be asked to verify your settings.  Click OK when 
  89. finished.  The setup program should now return you to the Cricket '97 
  90. launcher.

  92. Click the 'Play' button and the demo should load and run.

  97. *** SECTION 2 - Playing the demo ***

  100. STARTING THE GAME
  101. -----------------
  102.  
  103. On the main menu, click play.  After the opening comments, the game
  104. should begin.

  107. GAME OPTIONS
  108. ------------
  109.  
  110. Once the game has begun, the following keys are available.
  111.  
  112. Pressing <Tab> before the bowler delivers the ball will give you access
  113. to the in-game options.
  114.  
  115. Pressing <H> will access the in-game help.  This explains all the in-game
  116. keys.
  117.  
  118. Pressing the space bar will pause the game.
  119.  
  120. Keys <F1> to <F3> and +/- will alter the camera view.

  123. GAME CONTROLS
  124. -------------
  125.  
  126. In this demo, only keyboard control is available.  The full version of
  127. Cricket 97 has joystick and mouse control options.
  128.  
  129. The game difficulty can be adjusted to any of the three levels (easy,
  130. normal and hard) by accessing the Game options screen (<Tab> key).
  131. The game defaults to easy mode.
  132. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

  134. In easy mode, the computer will automatically select a shot for you,
  135. so that you may get used to the timing of the shot.  Press <Ctrl> to 
  136. hit the ball, press <Ctrl> and <Alt> simultaneously to hit the ball 
  137. harder.  Again, note that this is the default control system.
  138.  
  139. For normal and hard difficulty settings, the controls are as follows:

  150. Pressing a key on the keypad will move the batsman in the desired 
  151. direction.

  153. When you wish to play a shot, press <Ctrl> or <Alt> in combination with
  154. a direction.  This gives you 18 different batting strokes to play.

  196. After you have played at the ball, moving the batsman down will cause him
  197. to run to the non-strikers end.  Once you have completed a run, move up
  198. to run again.

  200. To slide your batsman in to the crease:

  203.  Press <Ctrl> to make the batsman dive at the striking end.

  208. *** SECTION 3 - WINDOWS '95 NOTES ***

  211. 1 - THE DIRECTION KEYS DON'T WORK IN THE GAME
  212.  
  213. If you find that your direction keys do not work while playing CRICKET 
  214. 97, make sure that your Num Lock key is turned off.
  215.

  217. 2 - MY JOYSTICK DOESN'T SEEM TO WORK
  218.  
  219. If you find that your joystick tends to wander or pull in a particular 
  220. direction during the game, you may need to calibrate your joystick.  
  221. This can be done by running the joystick program which can be found in 
  222. the Control Panel (double click on the My Computer icon which is 
  223. sitting on your desktop and then double click on the Control Panel 
  224. icon).  Once in the joystick program simply press the Calibrate button 
  225. and follow the instructions from there.

  228. 3 - CRICKET 97 ONLY RUNS IN FULL SCREEN MODE
  229.  
  230. CRICKET 97 has been designed to run as a full screen application only- 
  231. it cannot be run in a window.
