- Using CD-Quick Cache DOS/Windows 3.x version with Windows 95
-
-
- Microsoft has gone to great lengths to make Windows 95 compatible
- with most high level applications (word processors, spreadsheets,
- database software and even most DOS programs). They have,
- however, completely changed the low level file system from the
- one previously used under DOS and Windows 3.1. In addition to
- the change in file system architecture, they have also changed
- most 16-bit Real mode drivers to 32-bit Protected mode drivers.
- Gone are MSCDEX and SmartDrive among others.
-
- In most cases Windows 95 will install a protected mode driver for
- your CD-ROM drive. If it does, CD-Quick will be bypassed. If
- your CD-ROM drive has an interface not supported by Windows 95,
- your Real mode driver is used as before and CD-Quick works just
- fine under Windows 95. Drives with an unsupported interface seem
- to be the exception rather than the rule.
-
- You should also keep in mind that if you boot directly into DOS
- instead of Windows 95, you need to run with a Real mode CD-ROM
- driver. Since Windows 95 is not running in this case, its 32-bit
- Protected mode drivers are not being used.

-
- Introducing CD-Quick for Windows 95
-
- We have developed a version of CD-Quick for Windows 95 systems
- using 32-bit Protected mode drivers. If the Install program
- tells you to, "Please use the Windows 95 version of CD-Quick",
- you need this product instead of CD-Quick for DOS/Windows 3.x.
- Here's some of the features CD-Quick for Win95 offers:
-
- * Will work with any CD-ROM drive using a 32-bit protected
- mode driver.
-
- * Uses Dynamic Read Ahead Buffering with Fuzzy Logic Control.
-
- * Can use up to 16MB of RAM or 64MB of hard disk for a CD-ROM
- cache.
-
- * Easily handles multiple CD-ROM drives.
-
- * Easy installation in less than a minute.
-
-
- Look for the Win95 version of CD-Quick Cache at the same place
- you found this version. The filename to look for is CDQ95Vxx.ZIP
- (where xx is the version number). CD-Quick's manual lists several
- Distribution Points for CD-Quick Cache in Appendix D.
-
- CD-Quick for Win95 may also be found in the Windows Shareware forum
- on CompuServe (GO WINSHARE) in Lib 15. Look for the filename
- CDQ95.ZIP.
