- ##############################################################
-
- 1) GENERAL INFORMATION
-
- A) Minimum System Requirements
-
- The minimum system requirements for Force Commander
- on your Windows 95 or 98 system are as follows:
-
- COMPUTER: 100% Windows 95 or 98 DirectX compatible
- computer required.
-
- CPU: Pentium class 266MHz or faster processor required.
-
- MEMORY: 64MB RAM minimum required.
-
- GRAPHICS CARD: 100% DirectX compatible PCI or AGP
- 3D graphics card with at least 8MB memory required.
-
- SOUND CARD: 100% DirectX compatible 16-bit sound card
- required.
-
- CD-ROM DRIVE: 4X CD-ROM drive minimum required for the
- full game.
-
- INPUT DEVICES: 100% Windows 95/98 compatible mouse and
- keyboard required.
-
- DIRECTX: Microsoft DirectX 7.0a must be installed to play
- Force Commander. To download DirectX 7.0a, please refer to
- the LucasArts Web site:
-
- http://support.lucasarts.com
-
- From there, choose Updates/Patches, and then Utilities to
- find a link to the latest version of DirectX.
-
- Please refer to 'Installation' and 'DirectX Setup' in
- the Troubleshooting Guide for more information about
- DirectX.
-
- NOTE: Your system may require the "latest" Windows
- 95/98 drivers for your particular hardware.
-
- HARD DISK SPACE: Minimum 115MB free hard disk space
- required. It is recommended that you have an additional
- 155MB of free space available after installing the game
- for the Windows swap file.
-
- B) Performance Options on Faster Machines
-
- Force Commander defaults all in-game performance options to
- the least performance-intensive settings, to be playable on
- all supported machines right out of the box. This means
- that on faster machines, the way the game looks can be
- improved quite a bit by changing those options. For
- details about all performance options, please see the
- Troubleshooting Guide.
-
- C) Pass-Through 3D Cards
-
- If you have a Voodoo 2, you will need to set the display
- adapter in order to utilize it. In the launcher, select
- Options->Performance Options. Upon entering this menu, the
- Voodoo 2 driver should be automatically selected. Make
- sure to press OK instead of cancel when exiting this
- dialog, or your display adapter will revert back to the
- primary display. For more information about selecting your
- display adapter, please see the Troubleshooting guide.
-
- D) Laptop Systems
-
- While Force Commander should work fine on most systems
- that meet the minimum hardware specifications, it has
- NOT been tested with laptop systems and therefore we
- can NOT guarantee compatibility.
-
- Due to the wide variety of hardware configurations that
- ship with today's laptop systems, it would be impossible
- to configure a game that would work with all of them.
- Many laptops are limited in their ability to be used as
- a gaming machine because of memory configurations, their
- microchannel architecture, port configurations (i.e.
- no place for a joystick) and sound systems primarily
- designed to be used with productivity software.
-
- Laptop systems will attempt to compress the traditional
- version of the standard 101-function keyboard (found on
- almost all desktop systems) into a much smaller key
- configuration. This is usually done by relying on
- multi-function keys that allow the user to assign
- different functions to the same key. Unfortunately,
- this has been known to cause problems with our games.
-
- E) OEM Features on Brand Name Machines
-
- Many brand name computers come with a variety of
- features provided by the manufacturer, including special
- buttons on the keyboard or special functions assigned to
- buttons common to all keyboards. For example, on one
- machine with which we tested, the Pause key did not work
- because the machine's manufacturer had assigned that key
- to bring up a special menu on the desktop. In general,
- we recommend that ,while playing Force Commander, you do
- not use the special 'bells and whistles' your machine
- came with.
-
- F) Task Switching
-
- While it can be necessary to task out of the front-end
- menus for internet and MSN Gaming Zone games, we do not
- recommend task switching (with ALT-TAB or ALT-ESC)
- during gameplay.
-

- B) Upgrades
-
- Each unit has access to only certain upgrades. Purchasing
- an upgrade will enhance every unit capable of receiving
- the enhancement, both those then existing and those
- subsequently bought. The degree of enhancement is based
- on the amount of experience the affected unit has.
-
- Upgrade Types
- -------------
- F=Fire Rate, H=Health, Sp=Speed
-
- Unit/Upgrade Matchups
- ---------------------
- Units that aren't mentioned do not receive upgrades.
-

- Dewback Trooper: F
- AT-ST: F,H
- AT-AA: F,H
- AT-AT: F,H
- Troop Transport: F,H,Sp
- Heavy Artillery: F,H,Sp
-
- C) Group Assignments and the Number Pad
-
- When the manual discusses number keys for assigning units
- to groups, it is referring to the top row of number keys,
- not the number pad.
-
- D) Game Freezes, Music Still Plays
-
- If you experience what appears to be a lock-up, but music
- is still playing, the game has not crashed. You may need
- to wait for 5 minutes, but the game will eventually
- respond to a mouse click, which will allow you to
- continue normally.
-
- E) Losing Sound Effects or Music
-
- If you find that you aren't getting sound effects or music,
- even though you had the volume set to audible levels, check
- the volume levels again, as they may have been reset by
- conditions in the game.
-
- F) Black Screen between Levels
-
- If you experience a black screen between a level and the
- score screen, and music is still playing, the game has not
- crashed. It may take over five minutes, but you will
- eventually get to the score screen.
-
- G) Full Buildings
-
- If part of your mission objectives is to put a character
- in a building that you've captured, you may need to remove
- one of capturing infantry to make room for the character.
-
- H) Stuck Units
-
- If you have a unit that seems reluctant to follow your
- movement orders, press the Stop button on the Command Bar
- and try to give the order again, or lay waypoints around
- the obstruction. If that doesn't work, it is possible
- that the unit has been brought down on top of terrain
- that it cannot traverse, in which case it is probably
- best to delete it, and avoid paying the maintenance cost.
-
- I) Mission Will Not End
-
- It is possible, if you really work at it, to stop a mission
- from ending by hitting the Escape key more than 5 times
- right before the mission fail pop-up appears. Please don't
- do that.
