  13. 1: BC3K System Requirements

  42. 2: INSTALLATION
  43.

  48.  .Place the BATTLECRUISER 3000AD V1.0 CD ROM in your CD-ROM drive.
  49.  .Double click on MY COMPUTER icon. If your computer does not have this icon, 
  50.   then double click on your CD-ROM drive.
  51.  .Double click on the INSTALL.EXE icon
  52.  .Once the setup program starts, following the on screen instructions to 
  53.   install the program on your computer.
  54.  .When prompted for the language, type the number and press [ENTER]. Only
  55.   English language is supported.
  56.  .Do NOT install the game to a folder that has a name that exceeds
  57.   the standard DOS 8.3 character format. Installing to C:\battlecruiser will
  58.   NOT work but C:\BC3000AD will.
  59.  .Once the installation in finished, you will be prompted to setup your sound
  60.   card. Select your digitized and music cards and be sure to run a test. When
  61.   you're done, click on OK to continue.
  62.  .From the install folder, type BC3000AD to run the game. If you have any
  63.   video problems, read the section below.
  64.   
  65.   NOTE: If the installation refuses to run or after it is finished some files
  66.   are not copied to your hard drive. Try running under a pure DOS environment or
  67.   MS-DOS mode, if you are running under Windows 95.
  68.  
  69.   If you still cannot get the graphical install to run, try using the text mode
  70.   install. Go to the DOS prompt and from the cd-rom drive, type INSTALL t and
  71.   press [ENTER] to run the install program in text mode.

  75.  .Place the BATTLECRUISER 3000AD V2.0 CD ROM in your CD-ROM drive.
  76.  .Double click on MY COMPUTER icon. If your computer does not have this icon,

  79.  .Once the setup program starts, following the on screen instructions to 
  80.   install the program on your computer. Several icons will be created which 
  81.   you can use to run the software or 3DFX versions of the game.

  89. 3: 2D VIDEO CARD PROBLEMS

  93. 1. If after you install the game you get a General Protection Fault when you
  94.    try to run it or you are booted back to the desktop, you may have to 
  95.    configure BC3K to use your video card.
  96.  
  97.    Go to the BC3K install directory and from a full screen DOS session, type 
  98.    the following command which will display a list of supported graphics cards.
  99.

  102.    If your card IS supported, start BC3K using it's profile number by typing
  103.  
  104.    bc3000ad /vn
  105.  
  106.    Where n is the number of your graphics card returned by /v?. For example, if
  107.    your card uses the S3 chipset, you would type..

  111. 2. If your card is not supported in it's native mode, i.e, not listed when the
  112.    /v? parameter is used, then you have to use VESA mode. Load the VESA driver
  113.    for your card and then start BC3K with the /v1 parameter as in...
  114.  
  115.    bc3000ad /v1 [enter]
  116.  
  117.    If you don't have a VESA driver for your graphics card or your driver does
  118.    not work with the game, then try the Sci-Tech Display Doctor available at
  119.    www.scitechsoft.com or on the BC3K v2.0 CD-ROM. If it works for this game 
  120.    and it solves compatibility problems for you, then you may want to continue 
  121.    using it for this and other games. To register your copy, follow the 
  122.    instructions on the screen during the installation process.

  124.    NOTE: Whichever parameter you end up using, should be added to the command
  125.    line in the BC3K.BAT or BC3K3DFX.BAT file that executes the game. These
  126.    files are located in the install directory and are executed by the shortcut.

  130. 4: 3D VIDEO CARD PROBLEMS (3DFX)
  131.  
  132. ================================================================================

  134. If you have problems running the 3DFX version, make sure that you have the
  135. latest drivers for your card. You need Glide v2.43 or higher and you MUST
  136. run the game from a WIN95 shortcut!
  137.  
  138. When you start the game using /g (v1.07C or higher) or using the BC3K3DFX.BAT
  139. file provided, it will auto-detect your 3Dfx card and start the game as normal.
  140. If you did not disable the 3Dfx startup logo using the 3Dfx commands provided by
  141. your card manufacturer, then you will see the logo as the game is loaded for the
  142. first time.

  144. If you encounter an error about a .DLL file not being loaded, make sure that
  145. you have the latest Glide (v2.43 or higher) drivers installed and that you
  146. are running from WIN95 using a shortcut.
  147.  
  148. If you are using the BC3K3DFX.BAT file created for running the game in 3DFX
  149. mode, it includes the /g parameter as well as a line that reads:
  150. 'SET SST_TMUMEM_SIZE=2'. This line may already exist in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file
  151. but no harm is done if it is duplicated in this file.

  153. If you have a Voodoo 2 based card and have synching problems, i.e, the screen
  154. refuses to load or is corrupted, go into the Display Properties and disable
  155. the 'Don't sync buffer swaps to monitor refresh rate for Glide apps' tab.

  157. If the screen is too dark, use the [ALT+,] and [ALT+.] keys to adjust the
  158. Gamma control settings. These are then saved in the SETUP.CFG file for later
  159. use by the program. The default startup Gamma setting is 1.4 and the highest
  160. setting is 2.0

  164. 5: MISCELLANEOUS

  168. DIGITAL JOYSTICKS (WINGMAN EXTREME/SIDEWINDER ETC)
  169.  
  170.    BC3K does not support digital joysticks in native mode. 
  171.  
  172.    .From Windows 95/98, go to the Game Controller icon in the Control Panel. 
  173.    .Click on the ADVANCED section and then select CHANGE. Scroll until you 
  174.     find the Thrustmaster Flight Control System and then [DOUBLE-CLICK] on it. 
  175.    .Calibrate it and restart the game. 
  176.    .Select CONFIG from the BC3K MAIN MENU and select Thrustmaster. 
  177.    .Exit and calibrate the stick when prompted
  178.    .When you launch and you are in the cockpit or bridge, press [CNTRL+J] to 
  179.     calibrate the stick if it behaves erratically.

  181. How to create a working joystick profile in Microsoft profiler software

  183.    .Start the Microsoft Profiler software and choose New from file menu 
  184.    .Click on Settings tab and change emulation to Thrustmaster
  185.    .Save as a unique name, i.e. BC3K.
  186.    .Activate the newly created profile by clicking on it.
  187.    .Select CONFIG from the BC3K MAIN MENU and select Thrustmaster. 
  188.    .Exit and calibrate the stick when prompted.
  189.    .When you launch and you are in the cockpit or bridge, press [CNTRL+J] to 
  190.     calibrate the stick if it behaves erratically.

  194. 6: RUNNING UNDER WINDOWS 95

  198. BC3K is supported under Windows 95/98. Create a shortcut using the settings 
  199. below. There is an icon file, BC3K.ICO on the CD-ROM or the install directory
  200. that you can use.
  201.  
  202. Refer to your Windows 95 manual for details on how to create a shortcut.
  203.  
  204. Create the shortcut on your desktop. Make sure the command line and working
  205. directory BOTH point to the BC3K install directory. If you will be forcing
  206. a video mode using the /v command, then remember to add this parameter at
  207. the end of the command line.
  208.  
  209. Once you've created the shortcut, open it up and make the following changes
  210. to it's settings.
  211.  
  212.   Note: ON  = tick mark
  213.         OFF = no tick mark
  214.  
  215. Program - close on exit              = ON
  216.  
  217.           If you decide to run in MS-DOS mode if running from Win95 using this
  218.           shortcut doesn't work, then you can configure MS-DOS mode by
  219.           clicking on the 'advanced' tab.
