  6. This is a TEST  version of the Commander which is preliminary in
  7. design.  You should not use it for normal work. Any features may
  8. be  changed between now and the final release. Please report any
  9. bugs that you find to me.

  11. The Volkov Commander is a DOS  program, but it supports a lot of
  12. features in Windows 95 and OS/2.

  18. 1. Descriptions.
  19.    VC supports description files like DESCRIPT.ION or FILES.BBS.
  20.    It shows them and optionaly can copy.
  21.  
  22. 2. Archives.
  23.    You  can  enter in archives  like in subdirectory, then view,
  24.    edit  compressed  files, copy them to any directory (extract)
  25.    or copy uncompressed files to archive.  You can define almost
  26.    any  archive  utility to work with Commander. Long file names
  27.    are supported for archives.

  29. 3. SVGA video modes.
  30.    The Commander can work in any text mode with resolution 80x25
  31.    characters  or  higher.  Use  Ctrl-F9  to  switch  text modes
  32.    supported by VBE or use any external utility.
  33.  
  34. 4. EMS, XMS and disk swapping.
  35.    The  Commander  optionally  can  use  EMS, XMS memory or disk
  36.    space  for  reducing  resident  part  of  VC  when  executing
  37.    programs. Run VC /? to view switches.

  39. 5. Reversed sort order.
  40.    You can sort files in ascending or descending modes.
  41.  
  42. 6. New filters.
  43.    You can define Your own set of filters.

  45. 7. Treeinfo.
  46.    VC doesn't support TREEINFO.NCD  now, but supports new format
  47.    of TREEINFO.VCD  that can be stored in the root of disk or in
  48.    home  directory  of VC.  VC updates these files when creates,
  49.    removes or renames directories.

  51. 8. Attributes of directories.
  52.    You can change attributes of directories in Tree panel.

  54. 9. New  macros  for inactive panel in VC.MNU and *.EXT files: %,
  55.    %.%, %%, %:, %\, %@.  New  macros  for  short names !~, !~.!,
  56.    !~\, !~@, %~, %~.%, %~\, %~@.  Macros  for  entering  strings
  57.    ![text], !0,..., !9.

  59. 10.Internal viewer and 'Find File' function supports translation
  60.    tables   with   single-byte  and  double-byte  character  set
  61.    (Unicode).  You can find these tables in files with extension
  62.    TBL.  Copy tables in directory of VC and use F8 to select one
  63.    of them in internal viewer

  65. 11.Quick View  function  can display contents of files including
  66.    files  from archives, information about directories, archives
  67.    and directories in archives

  119. Known problems
  120.  
  121. - Long names under OS/2 are not supported.
  122. - Long names under Windows NT are not supported.
  123. - VC  is switched to full screen mode when function 'Video mode'
  124.   is invoked under Windows 95.
  125. - Big  delay occures when function 'Video mode' is invoked under
  126.   Linux's dosemu.
  127. - Extended video modes don't work correctly under Windows NT.
