SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLATION OF CSE HTML VALIDATOR STANDARD AND PROFESSIONAL v6.0x
If you have never installed CSE HTML Validator Standard or Professional before, then you can safely ignore the rest of this file and install the software normally. Otherwise, please read the rest of this document to avoid problems and lost data.
IF YOU HAVE A 5.5x OR EARLIER VERSION OF CSE HTML VALIDATOR PROFESSIONAL OR STANDARD ALREADY INSTALLED (NOT CSE LITE)
1. First, save and backup these files if you've made changes to them and want to keep them (otherwise you may lose your changes):
a) The configuration file (normally "htmlval45.cfg", "htmlval50.cfg", "htmlval55.cfg", etc.). Note that using an older configuration file will cause your validations to be less effective but they should still work (CSE HTML Validator is designed to work with most old configuration files).
b) The scratch pads (normally "scratchpad1.txt" and "scratchpad2.txt").
c) The tag inserter configuration file (normally "taginsertercfg.txt").
d) The CSS inserter configuration file (normally "cssinsertercfg.txt").
2. Uninstall all versions of CSE HTML Validator Standard and Professional v5.5x and prior. You do not need to uninstall the lite edition if you have it installed.
3. Install the new version of CSE HTML Validator Standard or Professional. It is recommended that you install it into the default directory.
4. Note that many of your old settings from the uninstalled version may still be used.
IF YOU HAVE A 6.0x VERSION OF CSE HTML VALIDATOR STANDARD OR PROFESSIONAL ALREADY INSTALLED (INCLUDES v6.0x TRIAL, EXCLUDES THE LITE EDITION)
1. The installation program will overwrite these files so you may want to back them up or rename them before installing if you have made changes to them: "batchreporttemplate.css", "htmlval60.cfg", "cssinsertercfg.txt", and "taginsertercfg.txt". It will not overwrite "userinsertercfg.txt".
2. Install the new 6.0x version over your current v6.0x installation, without uninstalling the previous version. INSTALL ONLY INTO THE SAME DIRECTORY AS THE VERSION ALREADY INSTALLED. If you are installing into a different directory, then you need to first uninstall the currently installed version and then install the new version into the new directory. Note, however, that installing into a different directory is likely to cause problems because some old options that point to the old directory path may be used.
IF YOU HAVE CSE HTML VALIDATOR LITE INSTALLED
You may have both CSE HTML Validator Lite and CSE HTML Validator Standard or Professional installed at the same time so you do not need to uninstall CSE HTML Validator Lite in order to install CSE HTML Validator Standard or Professional. Be sure to install each of these two programs (CSE Lite and CSE Standard/Professional) into their own separate directories (the default directory for each program is recommended). Do not install the lite edition into the same directory as the standard or professional editions and vice versa.
IF YOU ARE A REGISTERED USER
Please note that CSE HTML Validator Professional v6.0x will not accept registration names and keys from v5.5x or earlier versions. To request that your current registration information be sent to you, please see the "Registration Key Sender" section on the support web page at
http://www.htmlvalidator.com/htmlval/support.html
You will also need to obtain a registerable version before registering CSE HTML Validator Standard or Professional v6.0x. The publicly available trial version cannot be registered. You can obtain this version from CSE HTML Validator's web site if you are a registered user. Please see the email containing your registration information that was sent to you when you purchased a license for more information.
ADVANCED USERS ONLY
Although not officially supported, it should be possible to install a 6.0x version on the same system where a previous installation of a v5.5x (or older) exists. If you do this, please note the following:
1. Previous versions of CSE HTML Validator Std/Pro will likely use the v6.0x validator engine (csevalidator.dll).
2. Applications providing integrated support will likely use the new v6.0x validator engine.
3. If you need to uninstall v6.0x, then a reinstall of the older version will be necessary to restore the older validation engine (csevalidator.dll) after v6.0x is removed.
4. If an older version is installed after installing v6.0x, then it will overwrite the v6.0x validation engine (csevalidator.dll) in the system directory. Applications providing integrated support will likely use the older validation engine while the v6.0x integrated editor will use the newer v6.0x validation engine (there is a copy of it in the directory where v6.0x is installed).
