- NF1 - NEW FEATURES
-
- - Microsoft Windows XP Support
- QuickClean v2.0 will launch with support for
- the next generation operating system,
- Windows XP. Windows XP represents
- Microsoft's combined platform for the 9.x/
- Me and NT/ 2000 computers. All operating
- systems currently supported in QuickClean
- will continue to be supported.
-
- - New User Interface
- QuickClean's new interface is now simpler
- than ever to use.
-
- - Instant Updater
- QuickClean includes a new mechanism used to
- register and update your McAfee product.
-
- - Improved Internet Cleaning
- QuickClean v2.0 improves the ability to
- remove data that is no longer used or needed
- and items that users want to keep completely
- private.
-
- - Improved Shredding Capabilities
- QuickClean allows users to shred data they
- choose to delete to ensure it remains
- private. QuickClean offers the choice of
- using the shredder embedded within the
- cleaning feature or using a stand-alone
- shredder. This assures that selected data
- is completely wiped from the system.
-
- - Application Remnant Cleaner
- Although some applications have their own
- uninstall programs, remnants are usually
- left behind in the system. ARC ensures that
- all remaining files and folders are removed
- for a thoroughly clean PC.
-
- - Folder Browser
- This QuickClean feature helps users analyze
- the contents of their hard drive. Use this
- feature to identify folders owned by
- applications that are candidates for removal
- or compression.
-
- - Customizable File Cleanup List
- Users can create a customizable list of
- files that they want to clean periodically.
- This includes MP3 files that possibly did
- not completely downloaded the first time and
- other files that are deemed non-critical.
-
- - Improved Configuration Assistant
- Users do not need to be experts to customize
- QuickClean. The Configuration Assistant
- makes set-up quick and easy. Once installed,
- the Configuration Assistant walks the user
- through a succession of easy-to-understand
- questions and auto-configures itself based
- user responses. This ensures only the
- desired features are activated.

- the Adobe web site at:

- guide will also be available on the product
- CD-ROM or from McAfee Consumer Products
- Division FTP site in Adobe Acrobat .PDF
- format.
-
- - A User's Guide saved on the product CD-ROM
- or installed on your hard disk in Adobe

- IN1 - INSTALLATION
-
- To install McAfee QuickClean:
-
- - (1) If your computer runs Windows NT
- Workstation v4.0, Windows 2000 Professional,
- or Windows XP, log on to your system as a
- user with administrative rights. You must
- have administrative rights to install this
- software on your system.
- - (2) Insert the McAfee QuickClean CD into
- your computer's CD-ROM drive. If the Autorun
- installation menu does not automatically
- display, go to Step 3. Otherwise, skip to
- Step 4.
- - (3) Use the following procedure if the
- Autorun installation menu does not display,
- or, if you obtained your software via
- download at a McAfee web site.
- - From the Windows Start menu, select Run.
- The Run dialog box displays.
- - Type <X>:\SETUP.EXE in the Run dialog
- text box, and click OK.
- Here, <X> represents the drive letter for
- your CD-ROM drive or the path to the
- folder that contains your extracted
- QuickClean files. To search for the
- correct files on your hard disk or
- CD-ROM, click Browse.
- - (4) Before proceeding with the installation,
- Setup first checks to see whether your
- computer is already running the Microsoft
- Windows Installer (MSI) utility running as
- part of your system software.
- - If your computer runs Windows XP, Windows
- Me, or Windows 2000, MSI already exists
- on your system. If your computer runs an
- earlier Windows release, you may still
- have MSI in your computer if you
- previously installed other software that
- uses MSI. In either of these cases, Setup
- will display its first wizard panel
- immediately. Skip to Step 5 to continue.
- - If Setup does not find MSI or an earlier
- version of MSI is installed in your
- computer, it installs files necessary to
- continue the installation, then prompts
- you to restart your computer. Click
- Restart System. When your computer
- restarts, Setup will continue from where
- it left off.
- - (5) Refer to the steps displayed on the
- Installation Wizard to complete your
- installation.
-
- Important Information Regarding Windows XP
- Migration
-
- Upgrading your computer's operating system from
- any version of Windows to Windows XP causes all
- McAfee products installed before migration to
- become disabled after migration to Windows XP.
- You will be made aware of this issue as you
- make you first attempt to start a McAfee
- product (after migration) - you will be
- instructed to reinstall the product. Therefore,
- you will need to uninstall all McAfee products
- and reinstall using your installation CD or the
- software obtained from McAfee via download.

- KN1 - KNOWN ISSUES
-
- - Changing the color depth or color palette of
- your monitor's Display Settings to a
- 256-color mode while McAfee QuickClean is
- running may cause the text on any QuickClean
- window to be difficult to read. If this
- situation occurs, close McAfee QuickClean by
- clicking the Windows close button [X].
- Restart McAfee QuickClean.
-
- - If the text displayed on the QuickClean
- Autorun image is illegible; or appears in an
- unrecognizable font, then there may be too
- many fonts installed in your computer. To
- install this product, from your Windows Desk
- top, right-click My Computer and select
- Browse. Locate the following program file:
- <x>:\qcl\setup.exe. Here X represents the
- drive letter of your computer's CD-ROM
- drive. Double-click setup.exe to install
- McAfee QuickClean. Refer to the steps
- displayed on the Installation Wizard to
- complete your installation.
-
- - McAfee Shredder does not support the ability
- to "Erase free space" and "Erase an entire
- disk" if the computer's operating system is
- Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP.
-
- - Insufficient Drive Space messages: Free
- drive space, in addition to the amount
- described under "System Requirements - MB of
- hard disk space", must be available to run
- Setup and install your McAfee product. The
- amount of additional space depends upon your
- computer's Operating System and its
- configuration. If, during setup, you receive
- an "insufficient drive space" message, exit
- setup and remove unnecessary files from your
- computer. Re-start Setup. Perform these
- steps as necessary until you do not receive
- an insufficient drive space message.
-
- - McAfee Shredder, is not able to shred folder
- entries if your computer's operating system
- is Windows XP Windows 2000, or Windows NT.
-
- - If your computer is connected to the
- Internet behind a proxy server, e.g., a
- corporate proxy server or firewall, then
- Instant Updater is not able to communicate
- with McAfee's updating servers to check for
- product updates. There is no work around for
- this situation.

- log?
-
- A: NO.

- ____________________________
- AD1 - ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
-
- - Instant Updater is unable to determine the
- actions performed by the user after
- downloading a product upgrade. Product
- upgrades consist of patches and bug fixes,
- etc; and do not include incremental DATs
- (virus definition files). The upgrade
- process runs using a program that applies an
- upgrade independently of McAfee's Instant
- Updater tool. As such, Instant Updater's
- summary screen displays the same result:
- "successful" message, regardless of whether
- the user completes the upgrade process or
- not.
-
- - The most up-to-date version of your McAfee
- QuickClean Getting Started Guide can be
- found on your Installation CD; or, after
- installing the product, under <X>:\program
- files\McAfee\McAfee QuickClean\qcl.pdf. Here
- X represents the drive letter where your
- computer's program files are installed.
- Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view the
- online version of the manual.
-
- - Scenario: An attempt to update a McAfee
- product using Instant Updater returns the
- following error message:
- "Instant Updater was unable to communicate
- with the server. Please try again later.
- (-202)."
- This message displays in response to one of
- the following events:
-
- - The McAfee server is busy or not
- available.
- Solution: Try again later.
- - Instant Updater was unable to communicate
- with the server due to no Internet
- connection.
- Solution: Verify your computer maintains
- an Internet connection. If you are not
- connected, reconnect and try again.
- - Your Internet connection's "Proxy"
- settings are not configured or incorrect.
- Solution: Verify your Proxy Server
- settings are correct and try again later.
- To verify your settings, start Internet
- Explorer.
- - From the Tools menu, select Internet
- Options.
- - Select the Connections tab and click
- LAN settings.
- - Select an appropriate option. If your
- connection requires a proxy server,
- check the "Use proxy server" check box
- and provide the appropriate address
- and port numbers in their
- corresponding text boxes.
-
- - QuickClean's BackTrack feature functions
- properly if your computer's operating system
- is Windows 95 or Windows 98. System Restore,
- a component of all other Windows O/S,
- prevents BackTrack from functioning as
- designed.
-
- - QuickClean Lite, by design scans drive C in
- order to identify accumulated junk to be
- removed from your computer.
