  20. What is Pdf?
  21. -------------
  22. Pdf is a viewer for Portable Document Format (PDF) version 1.3 files.
  23. These are also sometimes also called 'Acrobat' files, from the name of 
  24. Adobe's PDF software.
  25.  
  26. There's also a more capable flavor called Pdf+ available. Pdf+ can print, 
  27. copy text to other applications, follow links and handle bookmarks. Pdf+
  28. also has special Revo and Series7/netBook modes. Check the website for 
  29. details.

  32. Distribution
  33. ------------
  34. Pdf 1.02 is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL), 
  35. version 2. Read the license in COPYING.txt for details on what is
  36. allowed and what isn't. When you install Pdf, you must accept the 
  37. license.

  39. If you want to distribute Pdf (on CD for instance), you must distribute 
  40. the source code as well. The source code is available on the website.
  41. Check the license in COPYING.txt. Feel free to contact mBrain Software
  42. for any question you migth have on distributing Pdf, or to check if 
  43. there's a newer version available.

  46. Compatibility
  47. -------------
  48. Pdf is known to run on almost all current EPOC PDA's, such as the 
  49. Psion series 5, series 5mx, series 5mx Pro, series 7, netBook, Revo and
  50. the Revo Plus, the Ericsson MC218 and the Oregon Scientific Osaris. 
  51. Pdf should run on the Diamond Mako (as this is a rebadged Revo Plus) and 
  52. the GeoFox, but at the time of writing this is not confirmed.

  54. Pdf does not run on the recently announced ER5u and ER6 machines like the 
  55. Ericsson R380 and Nokia communicator. Check the website for availability.

  58. Installation
  59. -------------
  60. Install the pdf.sis file in the usual way. Check your manual if you 
  61. are unsure how to install a program on your EPOC PDA.

  63. On the Series 7 it is possible that the installation programs hangs 
  64. while displaying the message "Checking dependencies". If this happens 
  65. to you, copy pdf.sis to your Series 7 and install it from there, by 
  66. tapping twice on it. You might want to delete this file afterwards.

  68. The file Pdf+.pdf is a quick-start guide to using Pdf. Copy it to
  69. your EPOC PDA and run it by tapping twice on it.

  72. Running
  73. -------
  74. Pdf files have their own icon in the System screen (but not on a 
  75. Series 5 or a GeoFox). Tap twice on a pdf file to start Pdf with 
  76. that file. Pdf will load the file (this might take a while) and 
  77. display it (this migth take a while too). Check the menu and the 
  78. help text (Ctrl+Shift+H) for an overview of the commands available.
  79. You can also start Pdf via the Extras bar.
