  27. 1. What is Space Explorer for Windows?

  30. Space Explorer for Windows shows the disk space used by folders and their 
  31. sub-folders. Features include: 
  32.  
  33. * see folder sizes in Explorer-like tree (which you can drill down, 
  34.   save and sort by name, nominal size, allocated size, wasted (slack) 
  35.   space or date)
  36. * see folder sizes in pie charts, bar charts, line charts, and spline charts
  37. * view, rotate, and print 3D charts
  38. * highlight trees that exceed a certain size
  39. * view disk space allocated and wasted
  40. * multithreading support (view one group of folders while other groups 
  41.   are being analysed; and set thread priorities)
  42. * UNC support
  43. * MDI support
  44. * drag/drop support from File Manager/Explorer
  45. * create/save folder lists using Explorer-like window (so you can repeat
  46.   sizing operation)
  47. * install/uninstall
  48. * full context-sensitive Help.

  50. There are many ways to use Space Explorer. For example, you can use it 
  51. to find out:

  53. - which directory tree is using most space;
  54.  
  55. - how much disk space is being used in users' home directories;
  56.  
  57. - if two or more directory trees are identical (by comparing their 
  58.   sizes); you can also browse down the directories to see where 
  59.   they differ.

  61. Using Space Explorer for Windows is very easy. If you require more 
  62. information while you're using it, press F1. This will provide 
  63. context-sensitive help.

  66. 2. How to install Space Explorer

  69. To install Space Explorer, simply run SETUP.EXE and follow the instructions.
  70. Once you have installed Space Explorer, you have the option of later
  71. uninstalling it.

  77. Space Explorer is not free. To find out how to order it, choose the Ordering
  78. Information command from the Help menu in Space Explorer.

  81. 4. Troubleshooting

  83. If Space Explorer fails to install, check that your computer satisfies the 
  84. system requirements listed in section 5. In particular, you will require 
  85. support for ActiveX. If you run Internet Explorer or any other program 
  86. that uses OLE, you will probably have the required OLE files installed 
  87. on your computer.

  92. The table below describes the system requirements for Space Explorer. You 
  93. may find that you do not need a computer with a specification that matches 
  94. these requirements. If your computer's specification falls significantly 
  95. below these requirements, you may find that the 16-bit version of Space 
  96. Explorer (called PKDirUse v3.0 for Windows) provides better performance.
