-
- Dear PC User,
-
- Thank you for downloading #1-TuffTEST-Lite,
- our FREE PC Diagnostic Software product. Once
- made, the #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program Diskette
- is self-booting with its own proprietary
- operating system. #1-TuffTEST-Lite is very
- unique in that it will "automatically" boot
- and rigorously test your PC's basic hardware
- in only 10-15 minutes.
-
- It is strongly recommended that you read the
- INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS shown below before
- you attempt to install it. Also see the
- "whatsnew.txt" file for a review of the new
- features, enhancements and fixes since the
- last release.
-
- #1-TuffTEST-Lite is the FREEWARE version of
- our #1-TuffTEST PC Diagnostic product. There
- are absolutely no time limits, restrictions
- or limitations on its use or distribution.
-
-
- INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
-
- Please carefully review and print the
- following instructions on how to successfully
- create a #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program Diskette.
-
- 1. Check the file name and size of the
- #1-TuffTEST-Lite Installation Wizard. The file
- name should be "ttlsetup.exe" and the file
- size should be "241 KB (246,212 bytes)". If
- for any reason you need to download
- ttlsetup.exe again, you can download it at no
- charge (onto your hard drive or floppy disk)
- from:
-
- http://www.tufftest.com/tt01-lite-dwnld.htm
-
- 2. The #1-TuffTEST-Lite Installation Wizard,
- ttlsetup.exe, is a self-extracting Windows
- program that you "run" under Windows 3.1x,
- Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows NT.
-
- 3. The Installation Wizard creates a Program
- Group with 2 icons. One icon, the Make
- #1-TuffTEST-Lite Diskette Wizard, is for
- making a self-booting #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program
- Diskette whenever needed. And the other icon,
- #1-TuffTEST-Lite USE INSTRUCTIONS, is for
- viewing and/or printing the #1-TuffTEST-Lite
- Use Instructions file (1ttlread.wri). The
- default directory is C:\Program Files\TT-Lite.
-
- 4. During operation the Make #1-TuffTEST-Lite
- Diskette Wizard will automatically open a DOS
- Window, create the #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program
- Diskette and then automatically return to the
- Make #1-TuffTEST-Lite Diskette Wizard.
- Therefore, it is very important that your
- operating system is configured to allow
- running a DOS program under Windows.
-
- NOTE 1 - This is the default Windows setup,
- however, some Windows NT "workstation" setups
- and some optimized Windows For Workgroup
- (WFWG) 3.1x setups do not allow writing to a
- diskette and/or shelling to DOS. If this is
- the case with your operating system, simply
- re-configure it prior to running the
- #1-TuffTEST-Lite Installation Wizard. If this
- is not possible, you can put the
- #1-TuffTEST-Lite Installation Wizard,
- ttlsetup.exe, on a floppy diskette and make
- your #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program Diskette on
- another PC running Windows.
-
- NOTE 2 - The Make #1-TuffTEST-Lite Diskette
- Wizard will not run properly on systems that
- are using "alternative" autoexec.bat and/or
- config.sys files. These files may have been
- modified (by the user or a program) to run
- something like 4-DOS over MS-DOS or to
- accommodate running DOS games/programs that
- can't run under Windows in a DOS window. In
- the latter case, Windows will not let you run
- a DOS program under Windows. It will put up a
- dialog box asking you if you want to re-start
- your system in DOS mode. If you answer yes,
- all Windows programs, including our
- Windows-based installer, are shut down and the
- system is re-started in DOS mode. You can then
- run your DOS game/program under DOS. In order
- to run the Make #1-TuffTEST-Lite Diskette
- Wizard you will need to use the standard
- autoexec.bat and config.sys files or use
- another PC.
-
- 5. The #1-TuffTEST-Lite format and file
- structure is not compatible with commercial
- operating systems (DOS, Windows, UNIX, etc.).
- Thus #1-TuffTEST-Lite's files cannot be "seen"
- by these operating systems. So do not attempt
- to do native operating system commands such as
- "DIR" on them as you MAY DAMAGE the newly
- created #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program Diskette.
-
- 6. The ONLY way to determine if you have
- successfully created your #1-TuffTEST-Lite
- Program Diskette is to try to use it as
- described in step 7.
-
- 7. To test your newly created #1-TuffTEST-Lite
- Program Diskette, close all open programs,
- shut down Windows, turn off the PC, insert the
- #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program Diskette into Drive
- A, and then turn on the PC. #1-TuffTEST-Lite
- will boot the PC and display its Main Menu in
- 30-90 seconds.
-
- 8. Make sure the "Boot Order" for the target
- PC is set at "A, C" in CMOS Setup. If the
- configuration is "C, A" the PC will ignore the
- #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program Diskette in Drive A
- and boot from Drive C.
-
- 9. Click on the "Make #1-TuffTEST-Lite
- Diskette" Icon to make a #1-TuffTEST-Lite
- Program Diskette whenever needed. If the image
- write fails make sure you are using a "good"
- blank DOS formatted diskette that is "not"
- write-protected.
-
- 10. Finally, if all efforts fail, you can put
- the #1-TuffTEST-Lite Installation Wizard,
- ttlsetup.exe, on a floppy diskette and make
- your #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program Diskette on
- another PC running Windows.
