  12. Thank you for downloading #1-TuffTEST-Lite,
  13. our FREE PC Diagnostic Software product. Once
  14. made, the #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program Diskette
  15. is self-booting with its own proprietary
  16. operating system. #1-TuffTEST-Lite is very
  17. unique in that it will "automatically" boot
  18. and rigorously test your PC's basic hardware
  19. in only 10-15 minutes.

  21. It is strongly recommended that you read the
  22. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS shown below before
  23. you attempt to install it. Also see the
  24. "whatsnew.txt" file for a review of the new
  25. features, enhancements and fixes since the
  26. last release.

  28. #1-TuffTEST-Lite is the FREEWARE version of
  29. our #1-TuffTEST PC Diagnostic product. There
  30. are absolutely no time limits, restrictions
  31. or limitations on its use or distribution.

  34. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
  35.  
  36. Please carefully review and print the
  37. following instructions on how to successfully
  38. create a #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program Diskette.
  39.  
  40. 1. Check the file name and size of the
  41. #1-TuffTEST-Lite Installation Wizard. The file
  42. name should be "ttlsetup.exe" and the file
  43. size should be "241 KB (246,212 bytes)". If
  44. for any reason you need to download
  45. ttlsetup.exe again, you can download it at no
  46. charge (onto your hard drive or floppy disk)

  51. 2. The #1-TuffTEST-Lite Installation Wizard,
  52. ttlsetup.exe, is a self-extracting Windows
  53. program that you "run" under Windows 3.1x,
  54. Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows NT.
  55.  
  56. 3. The Installation Wizard creates a Program
  57. Group with 2 icons. One icon, the Make
  58. #1-TuffTEST-Lite Diskette Wizard, is for
  59. making a self-booting #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program
  60. Diskette whenever needed. And the other icon,
  61. #1-TuffTEST-Lite USE INSTRUCTIONS, is for
  62. viewing and/or printing the #1-TuffTEST-Lite
  63. Use Instructions file (1ttlread.wri). The
  64. default directory is C:\Program Files\TT-Lite.
  65.  
  66. 4. During operation the Make #1-TuffTEST-Lite
  67. Diskette Wizard will automatically open a DOS
  68. Window, create the #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program
  69. Diskette and then automatically return to the
  70. Make #1-TuffTEST-Lite Diskette Wizard.
  71. Therefore, it is very important that your
  72. operating system is configured to allow
  73. running a DOS program under Windows.
  74.  
  75. NOTE 1 - This is the default Windows setup,
  76. however, some Windows NT "workstation" setups
  77. and some optimized Windows For Workgroup
  78. (WFWG) 3.1x setups do not allow writing to a
  79. diskette and/or shelling to DOS. If this is
  80. the case with your operating system, simply
  81. re-configure it prior to running the
  82. #1-TuffTEST-Lite Installation Wizard. If this
  83. is not possible, you can put the
  84. #1-TuffTEST-Lite Installation Wizard,
  85. ttlsetup.exe, on a floppy diskette and make
  86. your #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program Diskette on
  87. another PC running Windows.
  88.  
  89. NOTE 2 - The Make #1-TuffTEST-Lite Diskette
  90. Wizard will not run properly on systems that
  91. are using "alternative" autoexec.bat and/or
  92. config.sys files. These files may have been
  93. modified (by the user or a program) to run
  94. something like 4-DOS over MS-DOS or to
  95. accommodate running DOS games/programs that
  96. can't run under Windows in a DOS window. In
  97. the latter case, Windows will not let you run
  98. a DOS program under Windows. It will put up a
  99. dialog box asking you if you want to re-start
  100. your system in DOS mode. If you answer yes,
  101. all Windows programs, including our
  102. Windows-based installer, are shut down and the
  103. system is re-started in DOS mode. You can then
  104. run your DOS game/program under DOS. In order
  105. to run the Make #1-TuffTEST-Lite Diskette
  106. Wizard you will need to use the standard
  107. autoexec.bat and config.sys files or use
  108. another PC.
  109.  
  110. 5. The #1-TuffTEST-Lite format and file
  111. structure is not compatible with commercial
  112. operating systems (DOS, Windows, UNIX, etc.).
  113. Thus #1-TuffTEST-Lite's files cannot be "seen"
  114. by these operating systems. So do not attempt
  115. to do native operating system commands such as
  116. "DIR" on them as you MAY DAMAGE the newly
  117. created #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program Diskette.
  118.  
  119. 6. The ONLY way to determine if you have
  120. successfully created your #1-TuffTEST-Lite
  121. Program Diskette is to try to use it as
  122. described in step 7.

  124. 7. To test your newly created #1-TuffTEST-Lite
  125. Program Diskette, close all open programs,
  126. shut down Windows, turn off the PC, insert the
  127. #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program Diskette into Drive
  128. A, and then turn on the PC. #1-TuffTEST-Lite
  129. will boot the PC and display its Main Menu in
  130. 30-90 seconds.

  132. 8. Make sure the "Boot Order" for the target
  133. PC is set at "A, C" in CMOS Setup. If the
  134. configuration is "C, A" the PC will ignore the
  135. #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program Diskette in Drive A
  136. and boot from Drive C.
  137.  
  138. 9. Click on the "Make #1-TuffTEST-Lite
  139. Diskette" Icon to make a #1-TuffTEST-Lite
  140. Program Diskette whenever needed. If the image
  141. write fails make sure you are using a "good"
  142. blank DOS formatted diskette that is "not"
  143. write-protected.

  145. 10. Finally, if all efforts fail, you can put
  146. the #1-TuffTEST-Lite Installation Wizard,
  147. ttlsetup.exe, on a floppy diskette and make
  148. your #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program Diskette on
  149. another PC running Windows.
