  32. 1. What Is HotDog?
  33. ==================

  35. HotDog is an HTML editor for Windows. It helps you maintain and create 
  36. documents for the World Wide Web. HotDog makes life simple for you by
  37. providing quick access to tags and attributes and dialogs to help you
  38. create complex elements. It also uses a Windows 95-style graphical
  39. interface, even if you don't have Windows 95!
  40.  
  41. HotDog is _not_ a WYSIWYG, desktop publishing-style editor (but it may 
  42. become one at a later date). HotDog does not require any word processing
  43. software to run.

  45. HotDog supports HTML 3 and NetScape revisions. Note that some of the HTML 3
  46. elements are not yet supported by the NetScape Navigator. See the help file
  47. for more details.

  79. 3. Extending Your Evaluation Period

  95. 4. Registering HotDog
  96. =====================

  98. HotDog Standard costs US$29.95. A maintenance and support contract, which
  99. entitles you to personal technical support by e-mail as well as free 
  100. updates to HotDog for one year, costs a further US$25.00. If you do not
  101. want the support contract, HotDog upgrades will be offered to you for a 
  102. discounted price and technical support will be available from the
  103. hotdog-support mailing list.

  117. 5. Installing HotDog
  118. ====================

  120. Download the file HOTDOG10.EXE, and run it from Program Manager or File 
  121. Manager. This will install HotDog in your system.
  122.  
  123. The first time you run HotDog, a Licensing Agreement will be displayed.
  124. Please read this carefully before you start using the program. If you
  125. consent to the terms, click the "I Agree" button to start HotDog.
  126.  
  127. The unregistered Evaluation version of HotDog may only be used for 30 days.
  128. At the end of the 30 day period, you will no longer be able to use HotDog.
  129. If you need more time than this to evaluate HotDog, extensions to the time
  130. limit are available. Contact sales@sausage.com for more information.

  136. 6. System Requirements
  137. ======================
  138.  
  139. We recommend a 486 with 8 Mb RAM as the minimum system for running HotDog.
  140. It has run on less than that (even a 386DX25 with 4 Mb), but will be more
  141. "dog" than "hot". 
  142.  
  143. HotDog needs approximately 2 Mb of disk space.
  144.  
  145. You also need a suitable browser for viewing your HTML, for example NetScape
  146. or one of the Mosaics.
  147.  
  148. HotDog has so far been run successfully on these platforms:

  150. Windows for Workgroups 3.11
  151. Windows 3.1
  152. Windows NT 3.5 (Build 807) - Intel
  153. Windows 95 beta
  154. OS/2 Warp (Windows edition)

  156. It has failed to run on:

  158. SoftWindows  (HotDog will only work with enhanced-mode Windows)
  159.  
  160. If you manage to run HotDog in another environment (e.g. SoftWindows, NT on
  161. an Alpha) please let us know.

  167. 7. Known Problems
  168. =================
  169.  
  170. * Installation Program may cause problems with some 256-color displays
  171.   --------------------------------------------------------------------
  172.     If this happens, the HotDog files are available from our web site in a
  173.     ZIP archive. You will need to Unzip and install these yourself.
  174.  
  175. * 3DWindows don't display properly with some video cards
  176.   ------------------------------------------------------
  177.     The 3DWindows option should replace the standard window buttons with
  178.     small, gray, Win-95 style ones. Some video cards display these buttons
  179.     as dark blue or black, or gray but blank. If this happens we suggest you
  180.     disable the 3DWindows option.

  182. * Right-mouse menu behaves strangely in Win95
  183.   -------------------------------------------
  184.     This problem seems to be restricted to Win95. Unfortunately, Win95 bugs
  185.     are difficult for us to fix, since the operating system is not yet
  186.     finalized. Some of these bugs will have to remain at least until the
  187.     official release of both Win95 and the next version of the Visual Basic
  188.     programming language.
  189.  
  190. * Positions of toolbars changes if hidden/reshown
  191.   -----------------------------------------------
  192.     If you turn the Button Bar and Element Bar off, then show them again,
  193.     they will appear in a different order (the Element bar will be on top).
  194.     The same thing happens with the Documents and Status bars. Restarting
  195.     HotDog will fix this.
  196.     We are investigating a fix for this bug.
  197.  
  198. * Documents bar cannot be scrolled when tabs go off the screen
  199.   ------------------------------------------------------------
  200.     We're pursuing this with VideoSoft, the authors of our tab control.
  201.  
  202. * Inactive title bar text disappears
  203.   ----------------------------------
  204.     This has been reported by some Windows 95 users. We have not been able 
  205.     to reproduce this problem.
  206.  
  207. * Installation Program will not create group in Win95
  208.   ---------------------------------------------------
  209.     A fix is available for this, but it will only work in later builds of
  210.     Windows 95. It will not work in Build 347 (the "final beta").
  211.     When Win95 is officially released we'll make this fix publicly
  212.     available.

  214. * GPF in Trident Video Card at 800x600x256
  215.   ----------------------------------------
  216.     This happens with some versions of the Trident drivers. We recommend
  217.     that you obtain the latest version of the drivers from Trident.
