  1. Extra Slackware packages / user contributed package directory

  4. These are some extra packages that might be handy. Use 'pkgtool' to install or
  5. remove these from your system. These can also be installed with 'installpkg'.
  6.  
  7. Anyone who wants to contribute a package to this directory should send me mail 
  8. at: volkerdi@ftp.cdrom.com. The package must install cleanly, and must include a
  9. description to be added to this index (in which you can feel free to give 
  10. yourself some credit). As of version 2.0.0, Slackware contains an easy to use
  11. package creation tool called 'makepkg' that can be used to make the package. 
  12.  
  13. I don't offer any support for these packages. :^)

  15. Some of these long package names may cause unsightly wrap-around in the color
  16. pkgtool's package removal menu, but it should still work ok.

  23. rescue.gz:  This is a bootable rootdisk based on the 1.1.21 Linux kernel
  24.             with all the standard drivers, and all the Linux filesystems
  25.             including umsdos. It's got all the debugging and repair utilities
  26.             for these filesystems, vim, and man pages for many of the included
  27.             utilities. This is a compressed 1.44 MB disk image -- uncompress
  28.             it and write it to a floppy. You'll need 8 MB minimum to use this;
  29.             the disk self boots and then uncompresses a 2560K ext2 root
  30.             filesystem into a ramdisk. It boots/loads much faster than the
  31.             bootdisks that use LILO, too. :^)
  32.  
  33. seejpeg v1.4.3: seejpeg is Evan Harris's JPEG viewer which utilizes svgalib and
  34.             contains limited GIF, PPM and TARGA viewing support.  The most 
  35.             useful feature of seejpeg is that it automatically decides on the
  36.             "best" video mode to use based on the image being displayed and the
  37.             video card being used.  To aid it, various hints may be given as
  38.             program options.  In the worst case, it may be overridden.

  40. sample_users.tgz: If you install this package, 3 sample users will be created
  41.             (gonzo, snake, satan). This package was once part of the AP disk
  42.             series, but too many people installed it without noticing, and it 
  43.             was becoming the best known backdoor into Linux boxes all over the
  44.             Internet (!). This package stems from a time before the "adduser"
  45.             utility was put in Slackware, so it really isn't all that helpful
  46.             anymore. You could use "adduser" to create some sample accounts
  47.             nearly as easily.

  49. aps-23.tgz: Andreas Klemm's Apsfilter-2.3. aps-2 is an lineprinter input filter
  50.             for Unix Systems with Berkeley alike printing system (configuration
  51.             using /etc/printcap).  Main features are AUTOMATIC FILE TYPE 
  52.             RECOGNITION for the filetypes: * ASCII * DATA * POSTSCRIPT * DVI *
  53.  
  54. samba-1.9.13.tgz: Samba is a Unix based SMB file server. This allows a Unix host
  55.             to act as a file and print server for SMB clients. This includes
  56.             Lan-Manager compatible clients such as LanManager for DOS, Windows
  57.             for Workgroups, Windows NT, OS/2, Pathworks and many more. If you
  58.             have any PCs running SMB clients, such as a PC running Windows for
  59.             Workgroups, then you can mount file space or printers from a Linux
  60.             host, so that directories, files and printers on the Linux host
  61.             are available on the PC.

  63. dosemu-0.60.1.tgz: An MS-DOS emulator (actually a virtual 80x86 machine for
  64.             Linux that can run MS-DOS 3.3-6.2, DR-DOS 6.0, or possibly other
  65.             versions of DOS).
  66.  
  67. gcl-2.0.tgz: GNU Common Lisp 2.0.  Now includes an interface to Tcl/Tk!
  68.  
  69. auis63L4-*.tgz: Packages from the Andrew User Interface System, put together
  70.                 for Linux by Terry Gliedt.
  71.  
  72. lemacs.tgz: This is Lucid Emacs version 19.10 (also known as xemacs)
  73.  
  74. xgrabsc.tgz: A screen grabber for X.
  75.  
  76. nvi.tgz: Version 1.34 of nex/nvi, a freely redistributable replacement for the
  77.          Berkeley ex and vi text editors.
  78.  
  79. noweb.tgz: A literate-programming tool like FunnelWEB or nuweb, only simpler.
  80.  
  81. manpagesrc.tgz: This is groff source for all of the manpages in Slackware.
  82.  
  83. smail/: Smail 3.1.29. Smail is a mail-handling system. Some find it easier to
  84.        maintain and configure than BSD sendmail, especially for use with UUCP.
  85.  
  86. pdksh.tgz: A Korn shell look-alike, version 5.0.6 alpha. 
  87.  
  88. g77.tgz: The GNU Fortran-77 compiler. (requires GCC 2.6.3)
  89.  
  90. gpc-1.1p2.tgz: The GNU Pascal compiler. (requires GCC 2.6.3)
  91.  
  92. perl-5.001.tgz: Perl version 5.001.
  93.  
  94. slirp-0.9j.tar.gz:  Source for a program to emulate SLIP/CSLIP from a Unix(R)
  95.       shell account on the Internet.
  96.
