  3. Setserial is a program which allows you to look at and change various
  4. attributes of a serial device, including its port, its IRQ, and other
  5. serial port options.
  6.  
  7. Starting with Linux 0.99 pl10, only the COM1-4 ports are configured,
  8. using the default IRQ of 4 and 3.  So, if you have any other serial
  9. ports provided by other boards (such as an AST Fourport), or if COM3-4
  10. have been a non-standard IRQ so that you can use time simultaneously
  11. with COM1-2, you *must* use this program in order to configure those
  12. serial ports.

  14. The simplest way to configure the serial ports is to copy the provided
  15. rc.serial file to /etc/rc.serial, and then add to /etc/rc the lines:

  21. Take a look at /etc/rc.serial; it was written to be relatively easy to
  22. modify, and you may need to modify it so that it works best in your
  23. environment.

  28. Here is setserial's command line syntax:

  30. usage: ./setserial [-abgqvVW] serial-device [cmd1 [arg]] [cmd2] ...

  32. Available options:
  33.     -a        Display all possible information about the port
  34.     -b        Display boot-time level of information
  35.     -q        Quiet flag
  36.     -v        Verbose flag
  37.  
  38.     -g        Get and display the serial information of all
  39.                 serial ports on the machine
  40.     -V        Display the current Version and then exit
  41.  
  42.     -W        Do wild interrupt initialization and then exit
  43.  
  44. Available commands: (* = Takes an argument)
  45.         (^ = can be preceded by a '^' to turn off the option)
  46.     * port        set the I/O port
  47.     * irq        set the interrupt
  48.     * uart        set UART type (none, 8250, 16450, 16550, 16550A
  49.     * baud_base    set base baud rate (CLOCK_FREQ / 16)
  50.     * divisor    set the custom divisor (see spd_custom)
  51.     ^ fourport    configure the port as an AST Fourport
  52.       autoconfigure    automatically configure the serial port
  53.     ^ auto_irq    try to determine irq during autoconfiguration
  54.     ^ skip_test    skip UART test during autoconfiguration

  56.     ^ sak        set the break key as the Secure Attention Key
  57.     ^ session_lockout    Lock out callout port across different sessions
  58.     ^ pgrp_lockout    Lock out callout port across different process groups
  59.     ^ split_termios    Use separate termios for callout and dailin lines
  60.     ^ hup_notify    Notify a process blocked on opening a dialin line
  61.                 when a process has finished using a callout
  62.                 line by returning EAGAIN to the open.
  63.     ^ callout_nohup Don't hangup the tty if carrier detect drops on a 
  64.                 callout line.
