  4. Welcome to Mini NoteTab! A Freeware editor by
  5. Eric Fookes.
  6.  
  7. Introduction
  8. ------------
  9. Mini NoteTab is not just another Windows Notepad
  10. replacement! It is a feature-rich program with a
  11. selection of original productivity tools that you
  12. will find in no other editor (though some of the
  13. features will probably soon be copied by others).
  14. Special attention has been given to even the smallest
  15. detail. The editor has undergone extensive testing
  16. to ensure that it performs reliably under all
  17. circumstances. However, if a problem does arise and
  18. is reported to me, it is usually fixed in a matter
  19. of days.

  21. The editor is capable of opening a very large number
  22. of files (the actual limit is determined by the
  23. amount of free system resources). Each document is
  24. displayed on a tabbed page making it easy to switch
  25. between them. A separate window, called the Document
  26. Selector, makes it easy to find a specific document
  27. when a large number of them are open.

  29. Mini NoteTab can be configured to occupy a minimum
  30. of screen estate and stay on top of other
  31. applications. Context-sensitive shortcut menus
  32. provide access to all the editor's commands. The
  33. editor makes it easy to open frequently used files;
  34. it can even do so automatically each time you start
  35. the program. You can also open files by drag-and-
  36. dropping them from File Manager or Explorer. The
  37. editor can restore its size and position on the
  38. desktop from a previous session.

  40. This program is Freeware! Thank you for sending me a
  41. message (E-mail, postcard, ...) if you find it useful.

  50. Why "Mini"?
  51. -----------
  52. Mini NoteTab has been optimized to handle notes
  53. and small text files efficiently. It has been designed
  54. to use a minimum of Windows system resources. As a
  55. result, you can safely keep this program open all the
  56. time, even if you have many files open.
  57.  
  58. If you need to edit text files larger than 41 kb,
  59. use Super NoteTab instead of this program (see further
  60. down for details).

  64. ------------
  65. * Covers all features available in Notepad
  66.   (including LOG).
  67. * Open and edit many documents at once.
  68. * Web enabled (can open links and HTML documents
  69.   in browser).
  70. * Special Clipbook window with templates for
  71.   HTML tags, acronyms, etc.

  73.   font, tab widths, word wrap.

  75.   accepts search tokens.

  96. Installation
  97. ------------
  98. There is no special procedure to follow. Just place
  99. the program and its associated files in the Windows
  100. directory or in a dedicated folder (directory).

  102. - Windows 3.1 / NT 3.5 users:
  103. If you want to add Mini NoteTab to one of your Program
  104. Manager groups, the easiest way to do it is with
  105. File Manager. Just select the file MININOTE.EXE and
  106. drag it from File Manager to the group where you would
  107. like its icon to appear. You can also run the program
  108. by double-clicking on it from File Manager.

  110. - Windows 95 / NT 4 users:
  111. The easiest way to set the Mini NoteTab icon on your
  112. desktop is to use Explorer. Just select the file 
  113. MININOTE.EXE and drag it from Explorer to an
  114. unoccupied space on your desktop. You can also add a
  115. shortcut to it in your Start menu by choosing
  116. Settings / Taskbar...

  119. Uninstalling
  120. ------------
  121. If you have dedicated a folder for the editor, just
  122. delete that folder and all its files (except
  123. documents you may have saved there and want to keep!).
  124.  
  125. Otherwise, just delete MININOTE.EXE, MININOTE.INI,
  126. MININOTE.HLP, all files with the extensions ".FVR"
  127. and ".CLB" (in the program's directory), FILEPROP.INF,
  128. WHATSNEW.TXT, and this README.TXT file. All these
  129. files are located in the same directory as
  130. Mini NoteTab.

  132. If you have executed Mini NoteTab from a CD-Rom, you
  133. will find the MININOTE.INI and FILEPROP.INF files
  134. in the Windows directory.
  135.  
  136. There is no need to delete items from Windows' system
  137. registry or INI files as the editor does not store
  138. any information in them.

  149. If you need to edit large files and use Windows 95 or
  150. NT 4, you may want to download Super NoteTab. It is
  151. an editor similar to Mini NoteTab (also Freeware),
  152. but is capable of editing files as large as memory
  153. permits.

  228.    -> Works under Windows 95 and Windows NT
  229.    -> Uses a minimum amount of system resources
  230.    -> Very fast
  231.    -> Cannot edit files larger than about 41 kb

  234.    -> Works under Windows 3.1, Windows 95, and NT

  265. Note: this program was written with Delphi and uses
  266. components from a Shareware VCL package called
  267. the "Super Labeled Input Controls". The package,

  276. Known Issues
  277. ------------
  278. * Sometimes, the editor window does not update
  279.   correctly. This problem seems to be due to
  280.   an incompatibility with certain graphic card
  281.   drivers. If you have this problem, press F12
  282.   to refresh the screen.
  283. * The Undo command cannot undo all operations.
  284. * On some systems, depending on screen resolution,
  285.   dialogs boxes may not display correctly (dialog
  286.   elements don't all fit in the window). If this
  287.   is the case on your system, add the following
  288.   line in the program's INI file under the [Options]
  289.   section: 
  290.                  ScaleDialogs=1
  291.   I have not tested this option yet, so I am not
  292.   absolutely sure the dialogs will display better.
