The longer focal length allows you to fill the frame from further away which often makes your subject more comfortable. Although a nervous subject can yield an interesting photograph, wide angles at close distances makes objects closer to the camera appear larger such as the shoes and objects further from the camera such as the head appear smaller than they are.
