  11. BLANK SCREEN AFTER THE INTRO?
  12. =============================
  13. If you have a Number Nine graphics
  14. card, you will probably see a blank
  15. screen after the intro (or right away
  16. if you're playing the demo). This is
  17. because your graphics card does not
  18. support the special resolution Albion
  19. uses. To solve it, just start the
  20. game by typing ALBION MORESCREEN.

  23. NOT ENOUGH RAM?
  24. ===============
  25. It is possible that ALBION reports it
  26. does not find enough memory or that
  27. memory is too fragmented.
  28.  
  29. In the long run you can remedy this
  30. problem by removing programs from your
  31. configuration (CONFIG.SYS and
  32. AUTOEXEC.BAT) which are not essential,
  33. such as SMARTDRV.EXE.
  34.  
  35. If you type ALBILOW instead of ALBION,
  36. the problem is remedied automatically,
  37. although the program will run slower
  38. because your hard drive is being used
  39. as "virtual memory".
  40. Please note that you need at least 16
  41. megabytes of free space on your hard
  42. drive to use ALBILOW.

  45. TIP: WINDOWS 95
  46. ===============
  47. Start the ALBION shortcut (the icon
  48. with the MS-DOS symbol) instead of the
  49. ALBION application.

  52. TIP: WINDOWS 95 with 8MB RAM
  53. ============================
  54. Although the game works with this
  55. configuration, you may want to try and
  56. play the game in MS-DOS mode.
  57. Windows 95 employs virtual memory
  58. which slows the program down.

  61. WINDOWS 3.11
  62. ============
  63. We recommend you to play ALBION using
  64. DOS instead of Windows 3.11.
  65. In most cases ALBION works fine with
  66. Windows 3.11.
  67.

  69. HARD DRIVE SPACE
  70. ================
  71. ALBION runs almost completely from CD
  72. and requires only very little hard
  73. drive space. However, a saved game can
  74. grow to about 300 kilobytes. If you
  75. save a lot of games this will take up
  76. quite a chunk on your hard drive.
  77. Delete any old saved games (in the
  78. SAVES subdirectory), if you need room
  79. on your hard drive.

  82. OPTIONS MENU
  83. ============
  84. The options menu contains volume
  85. controls for music and sound effects.
  86. It also allows you to set the size of
  87. the 3D window, as well as some
  88. controls that allow you to customize
  89. the combat screen.

  91. COMBAT DETAIL LEVEL influences what
  92. the combat spells look like. If some
  93. effects slow down your computer, you
  94. can speed them up using this slider.
  95.  
  96. COMBAT TEXT DELAY influences how long
  97. the texts during the combat rounds are
  98. shown. By changing this you change the
  99. duration of the entire combat round.

  101.  
  102. ASKING PARTY MEMBERS TO LEAVE
  103. =============================
  104. If you want a member of your party to
  105. leave (perhaps because you want to
  106. take someone else with you), you can
  107. ask him or her to leave during a
  108. dialogue.
  109. However, not everyone will leave at
  110. any time during the game, which means
  111. the option is not always available in
  112. the dialogue screen.

  115. WORD LIST DURING DIALOGUES
  116. ==========================
  117. To help you remember which words you
  118. have already asked about in a
  119. dialogue, the already chosen words are
  120. shown in SILVER, whereas the words you
  121. haven't asked about yet are shown in
  122. GOLD.

  125. GOTO-POINTS IN CITIES
  126. =====================
  127. Please remember that you must have
  128. reached a location before a goto-point
  129. appears. It's not enough to have
  130. "seen" the location in the automap.

  133. SPELLS "BOASTING", "SHOCK" & "PANIC"
  134. ====================================
  135. To successfully use these spells you
  136. should know two things: first of all
  137. the effect depends not only on the
  138. spell's strength, but can also be
  139. improved by casting it more than once.
  140. Second, hitting a monster (any
  141. monster) helps to increase the
  142. intimidating effect of these spells.

  145. IF PROBLEMS SHOULD OCCUR
  146. ========================
  147. We have tested ALBION for hundreds of
  148. hours. However, if a problem occurs,
  149. the program will play a tone on your
  150. PC's internal speaker.
  151.  
  152. If the problem is not critical you
  153. will be notified when you leave the
  154. game. If the problem does not bother
  155. you while playing, ignore it.
  156.  
  157. If the program is ended automatically,
  158. or the problem stops you from playing,
  159. you will find a file called ERROR.LOG
  160. in the ALBION directory. The program
  161. writes an error report in this file.
  162.  
  163. In this case contact our hotline
  164. (see the manual) and pass them the
  165. information in the error log file.

  168. DEMOS ON THE ALBION CD
  169. ======================
  170. On the CD you will find several demos
  171. of upcoming Blue Byte products. These
  172. are stored in the AVI (Video for
  173. Windows) format.
  174. To watch the videos, start Windows and
  175. start the program INSTALL.EXE in the
  176. BBVIDEO directory on the CD. This
  177. program will create a program group
  178. and several icons. Double-click on an
  179. icon to watch a video.

  181. To watch the videos, Video for Windows
  182. must have been installed on your PC.
  183. For your convenience we have included
  184. a Video for Windows installation
  185. program.
