  13. Introduction:
  14. I found two things about the original Holed Out! 
  15. program that I didn't like; it didn't use RISC OS 
  16. properly and it needed to be able to write to disc 
  17. to save configuration information. Neither of these 
  18. are necessary under RISC OS, but as this game was 
  19. written in the days of Arthur it still uses 
  20. 'naughty' techniques. This utility is an upgrade to 
  21. the game which solves both problems and also 
  22. provides a nice little icon to double click on.
  23. NB: To use this upgrade you will need an original 
  24. Holed Out! game disk. The Holed Out! game is NOT 
  25. provided as part of this utility, and if you wish to 
  26. pass this utility on you must NOT include any part 
  27. of the original Holed Out! code with it.

  29. Use:
  30. Copy the !HoledOut application from this directory 
  31. onto a disk with more than 500k free. A blank floppy 
  32. or a hard disk are equally acceptable. Next, set up 
  33. a ram disk with at least 500k of free space. Now 
  34. place your original game disk into a drive and 
  35. catalogue it. From it copy every file except for 
  36. !BOOT, HOLEDOUT1, DRIVER and SCREENSHOT into the ram 
  37. disk. Now replace the disk containing the !HoledOut 
  38. application. Catalogue the disk and open the 
  39. !HoledOut application by double clicking with SHIFT 
  40. held down. Copy all the files from the ram disk into 
  41. the application directory. Now run the !HoledOut 
  42. application by double clicking on it. Text will 
  43. scroll by on the screen and eventually the 'Press 
  44. Space or click mouse to continue' prompt will 
  45. appear. Click a mouse button and the desktop will 
  46. reappear. If the !HoledOut application directory is 
  47. not on-screen then open it by double clicking on 
  48. !HoledOut with SHIFT held down. When the directory 
  49. viewer appears, delete the file !Run and then rename 
  50. the file !RunX to !Run. The game is now ready to be 
  51. run from its icon.

  53. Running the game:
  54. The game does require quite a bit of memory, and so 
  55. it's better to run it after a reset on 1Mb machines. 
  56. Simply double click on the !HoledOut icon to run the 
  57. game. Everything will function exactly the same as 
  58. before, with one exception. The golfers will have 
  59. different coloured jumpers (I didn't like the three 
  60. grey jerseys and so I've changed them to a green and 
  61. two shades of blue).
