  1. ConvertApp
  2. ----------

  4. ConvertApp provides an easy way of converting your old applications into
  5. the new 'Jens Ovesen-types' and vice versa.
  6. There are a number of options you can choose from the menu or by clicking
  7. the icon.
  8.  
  9. 'To new app' and 'To old app' selects what kind of applications you want to
  10. generate.
  11. 'Only apps' will leave normal directories unchanged.
  12. 'Recursive' will make the program continue into subdirectories.
  13.  
  14. Examples:
  15. 1 If you want to convert all the old applications in a directory to new ones,
  16.   select 'To new app', 'Only apps' and 'Recursive'. Then drag the directory to
  17.   the icon. It is generally wise to select 'Only apps' when you've selected
  18.   'Recursive', unless you are positive that there are no normal directories
  19.   somewhere that should be left alone.

  21. 2 If you want to convert a new application back to the old style, select
  22.   'To old app' and 'Only apps'. Drag the application to the icon.
  23.  
  24. 3 As you see, 'Only apps' is seldom deselected, and the main use for it is
  25.   when you want to convert a single directory into an application.
  26.  
  27. Whenever the application name is changed (adding or removing '!'), the
  28. application directory will be scanned for spritefiles, and each one
  29. scanned for the application sprite(s). They will be renamed to the new
  30. application name. This is enough for most things, but there are some
  31. programs that uses the sprite name internally. You will have to mend those
  32. by hand when you see them doing silly things.

  34. If adding or removing the '!' results in a dirname which already exists,
  35. this dir will be renamed with a '?' at the start. If THIS name already
  36. exists, you will get an 'Already exists' error, and you can get rid of
  37. the offending dir yourself.

  41. 1.01: Err, the small icons were given wrong names... That's what you get
  42.       when you don't test a program with all possibilities :-(
  43. 1.02: Both ways, recursive and safe-renaming added. Locked objects are
  44.       unlocked for the occasion.

  49. NB: It doesn't patch Impression "files", because Impression doesn't like'em
  50. withou '!'.
