- J-STARS Infra Red
- Reconnaissance Information
-
- The J-STARS system consists of an electronic warfare plane equipped with
- many infra red sensors capable of detecting very small heat sources from
- high altitude. The information collected by these sensors is interpreted by
- the onboard computers allowing a series of time delay pictures, showing
- movements of enemy vehicles and shipping, to be constructed.
-
- Island edges are overlayed in white, and active IR sources (enemy forces)
- are shown in red.
-
- The final information viewed by intelligence officers is a useful warning
- of enemy attack or the build up of hostile forces.
