- Infra Red Linescan
- Reconnaissance Information
-
- IR linescan images are produced by low flying ELINT aircraft carrying
- recconaisance pods. The pods contain special Infra Red cameras and other
- high tech scanning devices which produce detailed images of enemy forces in
- any weather, day or night. Night time pictures are normally used as this
- puts the recconaisance aircraft under less danger from enemy defences.
- Linescan pictures are usually used simply to identify certain targets and
- their locations, although up to date images may be used by strike pilots to
- plan attacks on enemy positions and identify the best routes for air attack.
- These IR images are often combined with other similar information
- enabling pilots to plan strike missions more easily. Other information that
- might be available under the IR images section includes : Satellite images,
- target data and target projections.
-
- The following IR linescan picture shows a light carrier group consisting
- of the carrier itself, as well as a LAC (light attack craft) and a SAM armed
- destroyer. Hopefully the carrier group will not have been reinforced by the
- time you attack.
