  25. This CD has been designed for everyone who wants a collection of clip
  26. art and illustrations for their Archimedes or Risc PC. The contents are
  27. Artworks, Sprite and Drawfiles suitable for use on their own or for
  28. incorporating into documents using Impression, Ovation, or one of the
  29. other packages available.

  31. Much of the material has been selected with a view to its usefulness to
  32. schools, clubs, and local magazines, although whatever your needs there
  33. is bound to be a great deal that you will find useful. There is a lot of
  34. clip art available for Acorn computers but most of it, although of very
  35. high quality, is quite expensive. This CD tries to provide you with a
  36. huge collection at very low cost.

  38. We have responded to feedback from users of our previous DTP CDs and
  39. included more colour files as well as greyscale and outline pictures. If
  40. two files have the same name, one with a 'C' suffix, for example -
  41.

  45. the second file is the colour version. 
  46.  
  47. Many colour Draw files have been changed to grey and, where applicable, 
  48. modified to give the best printout on a laser printer.
  49.  
  50. Sprite files have been coloured in basic colours and give good
  51. printout on a Canon BJC 610 or equivalent.
  52.  
  53. The PICTURES directory contains a selection of high quality 256 colour
  54. images taken from the large number we have available.
  55.  
  56. With a CD of this type containiing over 700 megabytes in more than
  57. 13,000 files finding what you want can be extremely difficult. Therefore
  58. the CD is catalogued in three different way.
  59.  
  60. The text file CONTENTS is a complete listing of every file. Each s shown
  61. with its full path/filename, its type [D], [S], [A] or [T] for Draw,
  62. Sprite, Artworks or Text respectively, and its size in kilobytes. You
  63. can load this file into any text editor and it will help you to search
  64. for particular files or directories.

  66. The !CDVIEW application will enable you to look at the various files.
  67. Full instructions for using this can be found by clicking on 'Help' on
  68. the icon bar menu when you run !CDVIEW.
  69.  
  70. Each directory in the DTP section has Thunbnail files of the contents of
  71. that directory. These are named 01_INDEX, 02_INDEX, etc. They are all A4
  72. size and show the full pathname and the name of each individual file.
  73. For anyone who wants a complete printed catalogue of the CD you could
  74. print all of these.

  76. In order to get as much as possible onto this CD most of files have been
  77. compressed using ArcFS. The !CDVIEW program will auomatically load ArcFS
  78. when it is run and will de-compress these files as required. If you do
  79. not use !CDVIEW you will need to load !ArcFS and decompress these files.
  80. An ArcFS archive looks similar to as ordinary directory folder. Most
  81. will contain just a single file, but others may contain many. You can
  82. treat the archives just like a 'normal' directory and drag the files out
  83. of them to any application or to another disc.

  85. Unfortunately, although compressing the contents in this way has enabled
  86. us to get a lot more on the CD (and to include the Thumbnail files,
  87. which wasn't possible on the earlier CDs), the disadvantage is that
  88. !ArcFS will require quite a bit of free RAM when decompressing some of
  89. the ;arger files. This may cause problems on some earlier models with
  90. only 2Mb of memory, but we would anticipate that most people using this
  91. CD with a DTP package will have a minimum of 4Mb and probably alot more.

  93.         Licence to use the APDL Clip Art CD
  94.  
  95. Purchase of this CD gives the purchaser the right to use it on any
  96. single computer. APDL does not claim Copyright over any of the material
  97. contained on this disc, most of which has been collected over many years
  98. and donated by a variety of persons. We therefore place no restriction
  99. upon the use of the material on the CD other than restrictions which the
  100. original Author may impose. This applies especially to items in the
  101. SHAREWARE directory, all of which contain explanatory text files.

  106. We have tried to ensure that all material is either Public Domain,
  107. Freeware, Shareware, or for other reasons may be freely distributed.
  108. Unlike most material, the origins of a piece of computer artwork is
  109. often difficult to ascertain, and if we have erred please be assured
  110. that we have acted in good faith and taken all reasonable precautions to
  111. ensure that no Copyright material has been included. If you do recognise
  112. any of your own work on this CD and are not happy, for any reason, for
  113. it to be included than please contact APDL and it will be removed from
  114. any future versions. We apologise in advance if this should happen, but
  115. I am sure you will appreciate that it is impossible to be 100% certain
  116. of the status of many unsigned items. We ask you to be generous and
  117. forgiving if we have made a mistake - it wasn't deliberate!

  120.         Use on a Network
  121.  
  122. A free Licence to use this CD on a Network will normally be granted to a
  123. state run, non fee paying, school or college, registered charity, user
  124. group, or other non profit making organisation, within the United
  125. Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland. This Licence is not automatic, and
  126. you must apply in writing to APDL on the appropriate form, which is the
  127. text file 'NETWORK'. If you fulfil the above conditions there is usually
  128. no fee for the Licence but we do charge a £1 administration fee, which
  129. must be enclosed with your application.

  131. If you do not fit the conditions for a free Licence then please apply on
  132. the same form, describing fully your circumstances, and include an SAE
  133. for our reply. We will advise you of a suitable Licence fee. Normally
  134. this will be granted without charge or only a nominal fee unless we
  135. think you are using the CD for commercial gain, in which case we shall
  136. charge a fee appropriate for the value we believe you are obtaining.

  138. We reserve absolutely the right to refuse a Network Licence to any
  139. person or organisation.

  141. Using the CD on a network without a Licence is a breach of Copyright.
  142.  
  143. Making the APDL Clip Art CD available over any Public Access Network,
  144. Bulletin Board, or any similar means is EXPRESSLY FORBIDDEN without an
  145. appropriate Licence. If you wish to obtain a Licence apply on the
  146. NETWORK form and also supply full details of your situation, including
  147. any fees payable, download charges, etc.
