- This CD has been designed for everyone who wants a collection of clip
- art and illustrations for their Archimedes or Risc PC. The contents are
- Artworks, Sprite and Drawfiles suitable for use on their own or for
- incorporating into documents using Impression, Ovation, or one of the
- other packages available.
-
- Much of the material has been selected with a view to its usefulness to
- schools, clubs, and local magazines, although whatever your needs there
- is bound to be a great deal that you will find useful. There is a lot of
- clip art available for Acorn computers but most of it, although of very
- high quality, is quite expensive. This CD tries to provide you with a
- huge collection at very low cost.
-
- As this is the third Clip Art CD we have produced we have responded to
- feedback from users of the previous two. As more people now have colour
- printers we have included more colour files as well as greyscale and
- outline pictures. If two files have the same name, one with a 'C'
- suffix, for example -
-
- SEAL
- SEALC
-
- the second file is the colour version.
-
- Many colour Draw files have been changed to grey and, where applicable,
- modified to give the best printout on a laser printer.
-
- Sprite files have been coloured in basic colours and give good
- printout on a Canon BJC 610 or equivalent.
-
- By request from users we have tried to provide a larger proportion of
- Draw format files on this CD. Although more difficult to change or
- modify they are sometimes simpler to use because they are easier to
- scale than Sprite files and so are more convenient for use in DTP
- documents. Sometimes, especially in the SILOHETS and CARTOONS sections,
- an item may be supplied in both Draw and Sprite format.
-
- The PICTURES directory contains a selection of high quality 256 colour
- images taken from the large number we have available.
-
- The !CDVIEW application will enable you to look at the various files.
- Full instructions for using this can be found by clicking on 'Help' on
- the icon bar menu when you run !CDVIEW.
-
- With a CD of this type containiing over 720 megabytes in more than 9,600
- files finding what you want can be extremely difficult. We did consider
- including 'thumbnail' files, but these took over 100 megabytes, and this
- would have meant a corresponding reduction in the amount of material on
- the CD. The text file CONTENTS is a complete listing of every file. Each
- s shown with its full path/filename, its type [D], [S], [A] or [T] for
- Draw, Sprite, Artworks or Text respectively, and its size in kilobytes.
- You can load this file into any text editor and it will help you to
- search for particular files or directories.
-
- In order to get as much as possible onto this CD some files have been
- compressed using ArcFS. The !CDVIEW program will auomatically load ArcFS
- when it is run and will de-compress these files as required. If you do
- not use !CDVIEW you will need to load !ArcFS and decompress these files.
- An ArcFS archive looks similar to as ordinary directory folder. Most
- will contain just a single file, but others may contain many. You can
- treat the archives just like a 'normal' directory and drag the files out
- of them to any application or to another disc.

- Licence to use the APDL Clip Art CD
-
- Purchase of this CD gives the purchaser the right to use it on any
- single computer. APDL does not claim Copyright over any of the material
- contained on this disc, most of which has been collected over many years
- and donated by a variety of persons. We therefore place no restriction
- upon the use of the material on the CD other than restrictions which the
- original Author may impose. This applies especially to items in the
- SHAREWARE directory, all of which contain explanatory text files.
-
-
- Copyright
-
- We have tried to ensure that all material is either Public Domain,
- Freeware, Shareware, or for other reasons may be freely distributed.
- Unlike most material, the origins of a piece of computer artwork is
- often difficult to ascertain, and if we have erred please be assured
- that we have acted in good faith and taken all reasonable precautions to
- ensure that no Copyright material has been included. If you do recognise
- any of your own work on this CD and are not happy, for any reason, for
- it to be included than please contact APDL and it will be removed from
- any future versions. We apologise in advance if this should happen, but
- I am sure you will appreciate that it is impossible to be 100% certain
- of the status of many unsigned items. We ask you to be generous and
- forgiving if we have made a mistake - it wasn't deliberate!
-
-
- Use on a Network
-
- A free Licence to use this CD on a Network will normally be granted to a
- state run, non fee paying, school or college, registered charity, user
- group, or other non profit making organisation, within the United
- Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland. This Licence is not automatic, and
- you must apply in writing to APDL on the appropriate form, which is the
- text file 'NETWORK'. If you fulfil the above conditions there is usually
- no fee for the Licence but we do charge a £1 administration fee, which
- must be enclosed with your application.
-
- If you do not fit the conditions for a free Licence then please apply on
- the same form, describing fully your circumstances, and include an SAE
- for our reply. We will advise you of a suitable Licence fee. Normally
- this will be granted without charge or only a nominal fee unless we
- think you are using the CD for commercial gain, in which case we shall
- charge a fee appropriate for the value we believe you are obtaining.
-
- We reserve absolutely the right to refuse a Network Licence to any
- person or organisation.
-
- Using the CD on a network without a Licence is a breach of Copyright.
-
- Making the APDL Clip Art CD available over any Public Access Network,
- Bulletin Board, or any similar means is EXPRESSLY FORBIDDEN without an
- appropriate Licence. If you wish to obtain a Licence apply on the
- NETWORK form and also supply full details of your situation, including
- any fees payable, download charges, etc.

- Acknowledgements
-
- This CD could not possibly have been produced without the efforts of the
- APDL DTP Librarian, Alan Wilburn. He has spent many hours collecting,
- improving, categorising, and otherwise producing the contents of this CD
- as well as the work he does with the normal APDL DTP discs. If you think
- this collection is worthwhile, then he is the person who deserves your
- praise and thanks. If there are omissions, errors or mistakes, then they
- are probably mine.
