Transcription: After many first battle, during which Alexander himself was wounded, he besieged Kirupolis and ordered his soldiers to destroy it. A few days later Alexander knew defeat for the first time when part of his army were caught at an ambush by Spidermenis on the banks of Politimos. Not even one soldier survived the slaughter when the skiffes closed in on a rocky isle in the river. Alexander stayed in Vactra all through the winter of 329 to 328 BC.
