- COMPUTER GIN
- Written by Jim Pisano, JPC Consulting (C) 1991
-
- COMPUTER GIN is identical to GIN RUMMY, the popular card game, except here
- you match wits against the computer.
-
- There are a few commands COMPUTER GIN understands which can be entered at
- the `cmd>' prompt. All commands can be abbreviated to the first two letters
- & all commands can be in upper or lower case. Those commands marked by
- an `*' can also be used at the `Discard' prompt:
-
- pick - Pick up a card either from the stack or the discard pile. You
- are then prompted to discard a card
- * gin - You have ginned. This command is used at the `Discard a card'
- prompt
- * knock - You want to knock. This command is used at the `Discard a
- card' prompt
- score - Display score card
- * suit - Re-order your hand by suit (good for showing runs)
- * run - Re-order your hand by face value (the default method)
- quit - End the game early
- help - The computer will analyze your hand & recommend what to do
- cheat - This displays the computer's hand. Good for seeing how it plays
- count - Count your hand
-
- After picking a card either from the stack or discard pile, you are prompted
- to discard a card. Enter the card rank and the first letter of the suit, e.g.,
- 10 of hearts is `10 h', king of diamonds is `k d', ace of spaces is `1 s'.
-
- The computer plays until it can go down on you or gins. If either you or the
- computer knocks, the opponent's hand is scanned for cards that can be
- played off. If any cards are found, then they are automatically played off.
- At the end of a round, all of the cards that the computer finds matching are
- marked with a dot and the scores are tabulated.
