  13. QUESTION:  How do I install Chinese Checkers to my hard drive?
  14.  
  15. ANSWER:    Chinese Checkers comes with a simple installation utility.
  16.              1.  Insert the diskette into the floppy drive you want to
  17.                  install from.
  18.              2.  At the DOS prompt type A:INSTALL (or B:INSTALL)  then
  19.                  press [Enter].
  20.              3.  Follow  the  instructions  as  they  appear  on  your
  21.                  screen.

  24. QUESTION:  How do I run Chinese Checkers under Microsoft Windows?

  26. ANSWER:    Although  Chinese Checkers is not a true  Windows  product,
  27.            our installation utility will install it for you:
  28.            1.  In  the Program Manager press the ALT-F for the  "Files
  29.                Menu".
  30.            2.  Press R for "Run".
  31.            3.  Enter A:INSTALL (or B:INSTALL)
  32.            4.  Follow the directions as they appear on your screen.

  35. QUESTION:  My mouse works in Microsoft Windows, why doesn't it work in
  36.            Chinese Checkers?

  38. ANSWER:    Windows has special built-in drivers to support  mice.  Our
  39.            software  looks  for a Microsoft  compatible  mouse  driver
  40.            which is loaded when you  turn on your computer. A diskette
  41.            should have  come with your mouse which contains MOUSE.SYS,
  42.            MOUSE.COM  or  similar  files.  Try  placing  the   command
  43.            MOUSE.SYS in your CONFIG.SYS file or the  command MOUSE.COM
  44.            in  your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.   These are the files that  DOS
  45.            executes when you  turn on your computer, and if your mouse
  46.            is  Microsoft compatible, your mouse should now work.

  49. QUESTION:  I get the message "VGA Monitor required." when I try to run
  50.            Chinese Checkers.  What I do?
  51.  
  52. ANSWER:    Your IBM compatible PC doesn't have a VGA monitor.  If  you
  53.            want  to  run Chinese Checkers, you will have to  go  to  a
  54.            computer  store  to see it run.  Maybe you'll  decide  that
  55.            it's time to get a new computer!

  57.            Some  VGA monitors fail our VGA monitor test.  If you  know
  58.            that  you  have  a VGA monitor try  running  this  command:
  59.            CHINESE /M.

  62. QUESTION:  Can I run Chinese Checkers from a floppy drive?
  63.  
  64. ANSWER:    Yes, by entering the command CHINESE, but if you have  less
  65.            than  1 megabyte of memory, the game will run  MUCH  slower
  66.            than  it  would  on a hard drive.  On  most  386  computers
  67.            Chinese Checkers runs just fine from a floppy disk.

  69. QUESTION:  I  get the message "Not Enough Conventional memory" and  my
  70.            program doesn't run.  What can I do?
  71.  
  72. ANSWER:    DOS  6.0  and DOS 6.2 provides a  utility  called  MEMMAKER
  73.            which is designed to free up as much conventional memory as
  74.            possible.  If you have DOS 5.0 run the MEM /C command  from
  75.            the  DOS  prompt.  If your computer has less  than   550000
  76.            bytes free conventional memory, CONFIG.SYS or  AUTOEXEC.BAT
  77.            is loading up a memory resident program which is taking  up
  78.            memory.  Locate a knowledgeable person and ask  him/her  to
  79.            help you load these programs into upper memory instead.

  82. QUESTION:  I  don't understand what "shareware" is.  Why do I have  to
  83.            order Chinese Checkers if I already have a copy of it?

  85. ANSWER:    Because  you haven't paid for it.  If you "bought"  Chinese
  86.            Checkers  from  a shareware vendor, you only paid  for  the
  87.            disk,  not  the actual program.  At the opening  screen  of
  88.            Chinese Checkers press the F1 key.  A detailed  explanation
  89.            about the shareware concept will appear for you there.

  96. QUESTION:  What is the name of the cute Chinese character who acts  as
  97.            "host" for Chinese Checkers?

  99. ANSWER:    Wai Fu Kan.  We don't actually know who named him that, but
  100.            one  day we mysteriously started getting "junk" mail  under
  101.            that name.  After checking with an authority on the Chinese
  102.            language, the name stuck.
