  49. Note:  After a decade of online use, FlashPoint has terminated its
  50. use and support of GEnie online services as a result of General 
  51. Electric Information System's or GEIS's sale of GEnie to a new owner,
  52. who, unlike GEIS, apparently prefers engaging in some highly
  53. questionable, if not illegal, business practices, e.g., double-billing
  54. its subscribers in a single month, unauthorized eletronic withdraws
  55. from subscriber's federal bank accounts, monthly usage/rate changes
  56. (in excess of double previous months rates) without advance notice
  57. to subscribers, etc.

  59. Suffice it to say, the outlook for GEnie's future growth and ability to
  60. retain its heretofore loyal 35,000 subscriber base appears rather
  61. doubtful; therefore, FlashPoint recommends anyone considering joining
  62. a commercial online service to look for a better alternative than GEnie.
