  1. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING PC-QUOTE USAGE

  3. Since its release, Personal Stock Monitor has been using PC
  4. Quote as the default quote server, because PC Quote was one
  5. of the first and the best.  All these months later, with the
  6. growing popularity of PSM, PC Quote has been seeing the load
  7. on their servers rise to levels which are seriously impeding
  8. performance for all users.
  9.  
  10. As shipped, PSM sets the automatic updates interval at
  11. fifteen minutes, but some people have been setting their
  12. intervals to zero in order to get quicker notification of
  13. changes.  This amounts to abuse of the services PC Quote is
  14. providing to the Internet community.

  16. PC Quote is being very reasonable by not shutting off access
  17. to PSM users, which they can easily do.  They have requested
  18. that you IMMEDIATELY SET YOUR UPDATE INTERVAL TO A MINIMUM
  19. OF FIVE MINUTES in order to ease the load on their servers.
  20. If this is not done immediately, you RISK LOSING ACCESS TO
  21. PC QUOTE for yourself and all PSM users.  This applies for
  22. both delayed and Real-Time users.

  24. v1.3.3 of the PSM software has only one change from v1.3.2,
  25. and that change is one which enforces this five minute
  26. restriction for all symbol updates from PC Quote servers.

  28. v2.0 of the PSM software has been changed to use the PC
  29. Quote MarketSmart Delayed server, which is a password-
  30. protected server.  You can get a free user name and password
  31. by going to http://www.pcquote.com, and signing up for
  32. MarketSmart Delayed.  This change is by request of PC Quote
  33. administration, and allows them to better track their server
  34. usage.
