  14.     I have FTP exhibiting the same problem in 2 different systems
  15. that I manage.
  16.     Configuration 1
  17.         Local isolated ethernet with only the following
  18.  
  19.         VAX 8800 VMS 5.4 CMU-TEK 6.6_5(patched)
  20.         Silicon Graphics 4D/280 (1),4D/240(2),PI running IRIX 4.0.4
  21.         SUN sparcstation II
  22.         assorted DECSERVER 100/200's
  23.         NCD-14c X-term (1)
  24.  
  25.     Configuration 2
  26.         Corporate network running DECNET,TCP/IP,Appletalk,etc
  27.         connecting via a SUN gateway to the internet
  28.  
  29.         uVAX II VMS 5.4 CMU-TEK 6.6_5(patched)
  30.  
  31.         Hundreds of various UNIX cpus,MAC's,VMS,etc scattered
  32.         over a large navy base.

  34. Symptom:
  35.     When doing an FTP of a large file (6-8k bytes min), the first few
  36. k bytes come accross fast enough, but then the rest just trickle in. Monitoring
  37. with SET HASH ON shows after the initial burst of 4-6 markers, nothing comes
  38. in for 10's of seconds, with maybe 1-4 markers and another long wait for more
  39. to come accross. Large files (like CMUTEKU5066.A_Z) eventually abort
  40.  
  41. 426-Connection closed; transfer aborted.

  44. those that are able to complete give transfer rates of 100-200 bytes/sec.
  45.  
  46. Is there some setup parameter or SYSGEN paramter that needs to be tweekd, or
  47. any hints as to where to look?
