- Your question is fine for this list, if a bit unclear.
-
- Regarding the mail that fails --- where was it actually being sent to?
-
- It looks like it was being sent from "e2pytips@fre.fsu.umd.edu" to
- "TIPS@FRE.FSU.UMD.EDU", that is, on the same host. So why (and how) did
- the mail get sent to CUNYVM (presumably the Bitnet gateway)?
-
- What transports (CMU/TEK, JNET, UUCP, etc.) is your MX using, and how are
- the path statements set up in the configuration file?
-
- In what may be a related issue, I notice in your SIG:
- BITNET: E2PYTIPS%FRE.FSU.UMD.EDU@CUNYVM.CUNY.EDU
-
- This requests one particular way of gatewaying mail from Bitnet to the
- Internet. It may not be the best way for many people on Bitnet, and the
- way you phrased it (CUNYVM.CUNY.EDU rather than just CUNYVM) may not work
- for everyone. For example, if you wanted to send mail to Bitnet you could
- probably use a gateway at UMD in College Park (rather than CUNYVM). When
- you send mail to Bitnet using MX, you should just addresss it as
- SOMEONE@SOMEWHERE.BITNET, and let the MX configuration take care of
- adding the gateway information.
