- The story I heard from our local account manager is:
-
- "It doesn't stand for anything. That's why it was used!"
-
- Something about problems with trademarks. Anyway, I believe he said that
- that there is going to be some sort of a contest to "name the Alpha", and
- come up with a meaning for AXP.
-
- PS.
- Have you heard about the Ada implementation? Ada is not like any of the
- other languages under VMS. The command structure is similar to the
- "SET something" commands. "ACS COMPILE", "ACS LINK", etc.. (I don't
- know these anymore.) Anyway, "ACS" has some "official meaning" which
- does NOT use the initials "A.C.S.". As I heard it, ACS originally stood
- for "Ada Control System", but that that name was dropped. Kind of like
- STARLET.... Anyway, this all leads me to think that AXP *DOES* have some
- meaning -- at least, unofficially.
