  19. Dan Jenkins is the author of Semi-Tough, a novel about a Texan halfback who
  20. plays for the (then) New York Jets.  It was quite a good novel, although
  21. Jenkins does offend Jews, Hispanics, homosexuals, liberals, and anyone else
  22. not from Texas.  He has written a number of other novels, all featuring some
  23. or all of the same Texan characters (Dead Solid Perfect, Fast Copy, Baja
  24. Oklahoma).  I believe Semi Tough has the first reference to the 10-point
  25. scale for rating women, although it does go in reverse order from the more
  26. accepted scale, begining at a Running Sore (10), and working up to a One (1).
  27. Semi Tough's hero is an Everyman, fated to win the heart of the perfect
  28. female character (a One), while his more sophisticated partner loses the
  29. female character, and quits the team.

  31. Jenkins is also a noted sportwriter, and a senior editor at Sports
  32. Illustrated.  In his writing he often belittles "health fanatics", and
  33. discusses his love for whiskey, cigarettes and steak.

  35. His writing is opinionated, but vastly entertaining, as long as you are not
  36. a Jew, Hispanic, homosexual, liberal, or anyone else not from Texas.  Avoid
  37. the movie version of his books.
