  22. Can't say for sure.  My grandfather, Melvin DeForest, knew -- when I was a
  23. kid, I remember talking to him and my father about it, when visiting him.
  24. From that conversation, I seem to remember that he was my grandfather's
  25. uncle or cousin or something.  But I was only a little tyke then, and
  26. Melvin passed away before I got a chance to ask him again.  One of these
  27. days I'll look it up.  Shouldn't be hard; I bet the DeForest museum at
  28. Foothill college (near here) has the whole family tree, and there aren't
  29. very many of us.

  31. It was pretty stunning to walk through Palo Alto and stumble upon the Lee
  32. DeForest plaque on Emerson St., about two blocks from my house -- I knew
  33. his lab had been in this area, but didn't realize I was practically on it.
