-
- Purely out of curiosity, have you ever worn glasses or contact lenses?
- If you have worn glasses, what strength were they, and did you need to
- wear them for *everything* (not just the occasional fine print)?
-
- I must add that contacts aren't chosen just for good looks, although I
- would imagine that this is the main or only reason for the majority of
- contact lens wearers.
-
- At high strengths, glasses become *very* uncomfortable.
- The weight is cumbersome, even with the new super thin lenses.
- You can't lay down while wearing glasses or the arm digs into your head.
- There is a period of weeks of wear to get used to looking at
- everything curved (imagine your reflection on the back of a spoon).
-
- There are no problems with proprtion or curvature with contact lenses. From
- a social perspective, the unfortunate reality is that children and young
- adults with thick glasses are only noticed for their handicap and are not
- generally the most popular people.
-
- Also (and obviously), not all people who wear contact lenses go blind. With
- proper care, frequent replacement and frequent follow-up visits with the
- doctor, contact lenses are a very safe alternative.
