- I have a problem that I'd like to get suggestions for solving. I have
- a two meter radio for which I'd like to have an outdoor antenna. My
- problem is that my father is neurotic and thinks that putting an
- antenna outside is like putting up a lightning magnet. So I'd like to
- run the antenna outside in such a way that he couldn't tell it was
- there. I do have some advantages in this endeavor:
-
- 1. Several years ago I drilled a second hole under the one where the
- phone cable came into the house so I could have a second line installed.
- The second line is now defunct and I could easily run the antenna cable
- out through the hole in such a way that it would appear to be the same
- cable that has been there for years for the second line.
-
- 2. There are two telephone cables running up the side of the house.
-
- What I was thinking was that I could make a vertically polarized dipole
- and hang it behind/nestled-in the two telephone cables so it'd look
- like part of them. Might confuse telephone repairmen but oh well! =-)
- By the way, I mean hang it on the side of the house, not from the cable
- run hung from the phone pole to the house. ;-)
-
- I do know enough, however, to know about a special gift from God called
- induction. =-) Would I have to worry alot about the antenna inducing
- current in the phone line? The transmitter will run at no more than
- about 1 watt (which is why an outdoor antenna would be helpful).
-
- Anybody else have any suggestions?
- If you do please email them to me and I'll compile the results and post
- them on the net if people want.
