- You can't get hum inducted into a phone wire like this from
- a nearby appliance or power cord. The signal level is too
- high. You get it because one side of the blanced line has
- been grounded somewhere. I'd bet that the problem is in the buried
- cable - not your house. You can check this by taking your
- phone out to the box and connecting it at that point. Remove
- the connection to you internal wiring first. If it still
- hums, it's not your problem. The phone company will fix it
- for free.
