- Hello Netters,
-
- I have a bit of a broblem with my VCR, although I do not
- know if the problem is with the VCR ot the tapes. I recenly purchased
- a SVHS Panasonic VCR and a couple of months down the track it started
- recording with such a large ammont of noise there was almost no picture
- left (PANIC). I took it to a service centre and described the problem to
- them, and they agreed to take a look. In the mean time (during the time
- that my new VCR was being serviced), my other VCR (an old model Sharp)
- which has been very reliable over the years, develop an identical problem.
- Coincidence? I did not think so. So I opened it up and found a lot of tape
- material on the head, and after cleaning it everything was back to normal.
- I then traced the tapes most likely responsible (as they were the only
- ones I was using during that time), and found that it was my brand new
- TDK EHG tapes which I purchased in a 2 pack. This led me to think that
- perhaps TDK made a bad batch (as this is the first problem that I had with
- TDKs), so I noted the batch code to make sure I do not get tapes from that
- batch. My new VCR came back and the service person told me that there was
- nothing wrong with it and that he cleaned the heads anyway. Relieved I thought
- that my problem was solved. However, yersterday it returned, and I am using
- TDK tapes with a different batch code.
- What I would like to desperately find out is whether it is likely
- that TDK is making a lot of faulty tapes lately, or is it possible that my
- new VCR somehow manages to lossen the surface of the tape so that magnetic
- material is able to come off (as this would explain the same problem with
- my older VCR). Please, any feedback would be grately appreciater.
-
- Thanks in advance,
- Remek.
