Two computing officers are required to support a major project in the Engineering Faculty, sponsored by the University Funding Council╒s Teaching and Learning Technologies Programme. The project will be carried out in collaboration with the Universities of Cambridge and Heriot-Watt, and will represent an innovative approach to support engineering education through computer-based interactive exploration of engineering concepts.
The computing officers will work closely with engineering teaching staff for the development of interactive teaching and learning software. The software will be developed on Unix workstations using X-windows and perhaps Multimedia techniques. The posts requires experience in numerical and non-numerical computing, computer graphics, interface design and C programming.
Applicants should have a good degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject and at least two years programming experience. Experience in the use of computers in teaching engineering and programming using X-windows, and an application of multimedia would be an advantage.
The appointment will be for one year in the first instance with a probable extension to three years. Salary will be in the range of ú12,129-ú17,052, depending on age and experience (the salary range is currently under review).
