- Well folks, it finally happened. Busch Gardens, the Dark Continent
- in Tampa, Florida finally announced their new coaster for 1993. I
- do not have all the information yet (no official press kit or track
- layout), but I did review what I taped the other night off of the
- news and I do have more information. First off, for all you out
- there that hate duplicate names of coasters, it is being called
- Kumba. I am not sure of the spelling yet but this is the way it
- sound. It is definitely B&M sitdown cars. It is supposed to be one
- of the largest steel coasters in North America. It has, what the TV
- said, was the largest loop at 108 feet. Don't know if this is off
- the ground, diameter, or something else. No word on the height of
- it or the length till I get my hands on a press kit. It is supposed
- to have 6 loops and the TV newsman said it would have 3 seconds of
- weightlessness (camelback hump like Drachen Fire?), and go
- underground in total darkness. The photo they showed was very
- stylistic and I could not tell much about the layout. It did
- somewhat look a little like it had some of Drachen Fire's elements.
- They also showed a computer generated on-ride footage (POV) on the
- coaster but they only showed about 5 or 10 seconds of it and I
- couldn't make out much except the first drop curves to the left
- (a-la- Traver-style) and it also looked like it had a boomerang or
- some other element that looks like that. Again I couldn't really
- tell exactly what it had. I hope to get some more information soon.
- If not, from BG, maybe I will be able to get something at IAAPA
- in a week.
