- While watching that incredibly tense Monday Night Football game last
- night (for those who didn't see it, the 49ers beat the Falcons 41-3), I
- saw an ad for GTE featuring a roller coaster. The ad featured a calm
- older lady riding the coaster with her hands up (Lucy White, perhaps?)
- while being interviewed by the rather freaked out host/announcer. I'm
- not sure what points were being made about GTE, because there was a lot
- of commotion in the house, and I was busy trying to identify the
- coaster.
-
- The coaster featured PTC trains with headrests, though the headrests
- were covered with fake fur covers. I'm not sure why that was done,
- probably some art director's idea of what a coaster should look like.
- In a few of the long shots, you could see that all the cars on the train
- had been enclosed in white boxes, making them look rather strange. I
- assume this was done because the trains had distinctive coloring/logos
- on them, and this was supposed to be a ``generic'' coaster. The wood on
- the coaster was the ``natural'' color. The coaster wasn't big enough to
- be the Mean Streak or Texas Giant. From some of the POV footage in the
- commercial, it looks like a pretty good coaster, with a pretty good
- whallop (you could detect a few laterals in some of the shots).
-
- Now, my totally ignorant, stab in the dark guess would be that this
- commercial featured Thunder Run. Can anybody out there confirm or deny
- the identity of this coaster?
-
- (GTE had bought lots* of ad time on Monday Night Football, but I only
- saw this ad once. If you missed it, you might get a chance to see/tape
- it next week if they're buying time consistently.)

- p.s. Yes, the pun is quite intended. ;^)
