- The Chciago Hobby Show was open to public from 5 PM Friday, Oct 30 thru
- 5 PM Sunday November 1st. The Northern Illinois Rocketry Association
- hosted "rocket building" consumer seminar for RCHTA and Estes again this
- year. As a result, I didn't get as much time as I had in the past to
- enjoy the show. Unfortunately, most of the catalogs and stuff that I pick
- are still with a friend. I have been hoping that Kevin McKiou would have
- posted something to the net by now.
-
- At the Estes booth, they had numerous new kits (but nothing down on paper
- yet). Indeed, as Estes announced at NARAM 34 last August the Maxi Honest
- John is going to be re-released in the "Collector's Series". Two scale kits
- will be released in the "Pro Series": A two stage Terrier-Sandhawk and a
- Jayhawk. The upper stage of the Sandhawk is essentially a re-release of
- the original Estes (BT-55) Sandhawk kit. The Terrier is BT-80 sized, thick
- wall pre-slotted construction. Terrier-Sandhawk can be flown as either
- two stage or single stage. The Jayhawk will appear to the old-timers as
- a release of the old Centuri Magmum Jayhawk, but this release features
- thick wall, pre-slotted contruction commin to Pro Series. There also a neat
- new helicopter model, called the Firewalker (I might have this name wrong).
- There is also a large fighter like model called the Tomcat that deloys two
- wings upon ejection and returns as a glider. There is also a new Egglofter
- in the E2X Series. All of the skill level 1 kits will under a "face lift"
- during 1993. The Alpha and the Big Bertha will continue to be available
- but with didn't paint schemes/decals. Alpha 3 will now come in this ugly
- (weak) floursenct orange plastic). I didn't see any other gliders or see
- the Astocam displayed.
-
- Quest was very laid back this year. They're introducing 4 new "skill level 1"
- one of which is the old MPC "Tomahawk" kit.
-
- Custom Rocket is also introducing a few new kits. Again skill leve 1 clones.
-
- Nothing new from MRC (look for them to leave rocket business within the
- next couple of years)
-
- Cox is still displaying their line of ready to fly stuff. Nothing new.
-
- North Coast Rocketry had a booth for the first time. Catatog flyers from
- last year were being distributed with nothing new "displayed". I heard thru
- the grapevine that they will be introducing a 1/72 scale Space Shuttle
- kit in 1993.
-
- Aerotech was there but I somehow missed their booth.
-
- Both Tripoli and the National Association or Rocketry had a booth.
