-
- 1. Use a tad of starting fluid in the air cleaner (don't try this
- with a turbo). If it starts and runs ok, you know it's the glow
- plugs. If it belches and backfires, but does not run, you are
- likely not getting any fuel.
-
- 2. Injector pumps are not self-priming, and many diesel fuel systems
- can become non-functional when air fills the wrong places. Try your
- recommended technique for starting if you run out of fuel. This will
- likely involve loosening one or more fuel connections, and cranking
- until the fuel comes out. It would sound like your engine is not
- getting any fuel; otherwise it might at least belch occasionally
- while cranking.
-
- Actually, diesel engines are easier than gasoline engines to figure
- the small stuff out about, because there's so little to go wrong.
