- -> The new issue of Car&Driver has a test of LIDAR detectors.
- -> The Bell bested both the Cobra and Escort models.
- -> From reading the article, lidar is suppose to be something to be
- -> feared. Low to No reaction time, limited detectability, limited
- -> scatter detection. The time reading with one model is instantaneous,
- -> the beam is only 4.5 feet wide at 1000 feet, and the lidar detector's
- -> detection width is less than 110 degrees.
-
- Yeah, I know. I doubt that the Lidar detectors will be very useful if
- the width of the beam is that thin and the cop's they interviewed
- usually fired it between 700ft and 400ft from your car. By the time
- you've been spotted, it's way to late to stomp the brakes! Also, if the
- cop is firing the laser from behind you, you won't even know, since the
- LIDAR detector doesn't go off and you'll be stuck out!
