- It has also been reported in the WSJ that GM will ax two divisions.
- Frankly, I don't care what John Rock says about Olds, because it
- seems likely to me that it would be his division to merge with Saturn
- if there is indeed any merging to be done.
-
- A week before Stempel was removed, GM brass were swearing
- up and down that he wasn't going to go. Those guys are just trying
- to save their asses and their stocks.
-
- And this business of Saturn buyers "moving up" to other GM products is
- a joke. Right now Saturn is in the small car/commuter/sporty market
- with the SLs, SCs, and SWs. They back it up with good sales practices
- and an excellent product. Sorry, there isn't anywhere for these buyers
- to go within GM after they're done with their Saturns. No way. Uh-uh.
- And there probably won't be for a long time to come; reputations die hard.
- If Saturn built mid-size and full-size 4 doors and perhaps a pumped-up
- SC with 24v V-6 or a RWD V8 type, IMHO the rest of GM would be out of
- business (although some desperados would *still* buy Chevys :^) ).
