  22. Not to a windshield, but the same peculiar thing happened to one of the 
  23. sliding glass doors that leads out of our basement.  One day, we found it
  24. shattered edge to edge, with an almost uniform square crack pattern.  There
  25. was no sign of any impact with any object (like a thrown rock or something.)
  26. The whole door was still in place, except for a couple of pieces that had
  27. fallen out.  The door was hardly ever used, so anything use-related was
  28. pretty much ruled out.  We eventually just attributed it to a defective
  29. piece of glass, replaced it, and forgot about it.
