- Can anyone explain to me, in words of less than one syllable, the
- difference between Bitstream and Multibit CD players?

- 1) the same digital data comes off the disc; the difference is in the D/A
- conversion?

- 2) Bitstream is newer?

- 3) Bitstream hence produces better results or is cheaper to make?

- What is the significance of "X times oversampling"? That sounds like a term
- to be applied to A/D conversion, not D/A.

- Why do multibit players advertise the "width" (18-bit etc) of the D/A
- converter? Surely, again, the number of bits is chosen at the A/D stage? Or
- is there more info on the disc (say, 32-bit samples) than is usually used,
- and the D/A conversion just uses the most significant bits?
